    Economic situation

I am waiting for my LR Rwd. These sort of news really worry me... Musk says Tesla will be out of money in 10 months without ‘hardcore’ changes
  3. A

    No more LR RWD?

And there is some speculation that at some point it will maybe be an advantage also for autopilot.

    No more LR RWD?

I was offered a European LR RWD a few days ago but I asked them to postpone delivery to mid June, hoping for it to have HW3.0 by then. But the Tesla delivery specialist was not sure if they would all be some kind of inventory cars and therefore without HW3.0. I wonder if there are any confirmed...

    Italy

I have rented a house in Codiponte/Equi Terme in the mountains not far from La Spezia for a week. There is 65 km/1 hour to the supercharger in Forte dei Marmi, so I guess I could go there to charge if needed. But I would prefer to have other nearby options. It looks like a fairly modern house...

    Standard Range Plus Supercharging Speed

Of course. I see it now. That makes more sense. I am going for the LR RWD :-)
  7. A

    Standard Range Plus Supercharging Speed

Great work, Mutley! It seems you reached 70% (meaning that you charged 60%) in 950 sec. which is roughly 15 min. That seems very good. Do I read the graphs correctly?
  8. A

    Standard Range Plus Supercharging Speed

I have seen several reports about 102 kW being the limit already. Unfortunately.
  9. A

    Standard Range Plus Supercharging Speed

But doesn't your prior argument about c-rate imply that the SR+ would at least charge at roughly 67% of the LR when the charging power goes up? Why do you now suggest that SR+ stays at 102 kW?
  10. A

    Standard Range Plus Supercharging Speed

Thanks Zoomit. I was just wondering if the information that the SR+ is capped at 102 kW didn't make you doubt your own model for SR+ charging at v2 chargers. But I gather from your last post that you now seem to have left your model? But I dont understand why you now assume the SR+ to be kept...
  11. A

    Standard Range Plus Supercharging Speed

Doesn't the 102 kW suggest a car limitation that would most probably apply to the v2 charging rate as well?
  12. A

    Standard Range Plus Supercharging Speed

Thanks for the answer. I guess 102 kW would already be more than 67% percent of the 120 kW (85% actually). But, following your line of thought, why would SR+ be capped at 102 kW now and not just accepting 120 kW? And why dont you think that it will just keep the current percentage and charge...
  13. A

    Standard Range Plus Supercharging Speed

Thank you for the informative answer Zoomit. I think I understand. That is also why the different models charges roughly the same percentage of battery in the same time I guess? But your model suggests that the sr+ will be able to charge at 145 kW at the v2 as the LR. Therefore also charging...
  14. A

    Standard Range Plus Supercharging Speed

I have heard several people talk about it. But they may have seen the same videos :-)
  15. A

    Standard Range Plus Supercharging Speed

Are you confident that the SR+ will accept even the 145 kW of the v2? And if so - based on what, since many seem to suggest it will not even reach 120 kW?
  16. A

    Standard Range Plus Supercharging Speed

Will the improved v2 charging and the new v3 charging help the SR+ at all then? I guess the on-route battery heating will help a bit, but apart from that?
  17. A

    Standard Range Plus Supercharging Speed

I am about to order either the SR+ or the LR RWD. My final decision is very dependent on the ability of the SR+ to actually take advantage of the increased v2 charging speed and the new v3 chargers - or it is actually limited at 102 kW charging that some observations seem to suggest. Does...

How do the v3 charge curves make sense?

The source is a Reddit user who attended the v3 event. I have no intention of casting doubt on his conclusions, but when several serious media suddenly cite those numbers as evidence of how a very important new technology works for a large listed company, I will try to make sure that those...

How do the v3 charge curves make sense?

That makes sense and sounds like a plausible explanation for some of the difference. But as far as I remember the 250 kW was always followed by a 1000 mph number in the video clips I saw - I did not check again though. The difference has to be large to explain the difference in the curves.
  20. A

How do the v3 charge curves make sense?

I use the users actual readings of kW to calculate how much the SoC was supposed to increase based on those. So I don't assume anything reagarding battery cells. But yes, I saw some fluctuations in the kW numbers as well. And one reason might be that the user systematically wrote the larger...
  21. A

How do the v3 charge curves make sense?

I am not sure you understand my argument correctly. I don't comment on the difference between the v2 and the v3, but on the difference between the curves showing kW and SoC for v3. The kW numbers dont seem to match the progress in SoC.
  22. A

How do the v3 charge curves make sense?

I keep wondering how the now famous charge curves (Tesla supercharger v2 vs v3) from the v3 supercharger make sense. It seems the SoC should increase more in the beginning when the kW numbers are larger. But actually the slope seems to be steeper between 8% and 13%. I looked at the actual data...

    Reference consumption in Abetterrouteplanner

I do several 400 km trips a year. And typically one 4000 km road trip in the summer. But if I can get a very precise reference consumption I think I will be helped a lot. I hoped somebody would have real life experience with different values.

    Reference consumption in Abetterrouteplanner

I am trying to decide between midrange and long range rwd, and also between 18 inch and 19 inch wheels. I find abetterrouteplanner to be an excellent tool trying to understand the consequences if the different options on some of my typical routes. But the reference consumption at 65 mph that...

Pictures of 245/45/18 tires on aero wheels

I am about to order a Model 3 and I prefer the comfort and range (and price ;)) of the 18 inch wheel. From the pictures in this thread (Wider Pilot Sport 4S tires on stock 18-inch wheels installed and tested) it seems the 245/45/18 tire really helps the visual impression of the wheel with a...

    Mid range sandbagged?

Thanks for the tip. I will use your logic with the wife tonight: “Honey, the measuring tape says 4 inches. But my dick can feel large or small. It all depends on how I use it.” :-)
  31. A

    Mid range sandbagged?

Strange answer I think? Is it just a way of saying that it does not matter? But OK. I think it matters if the comparable test result is in fact 260 miles or perhaps 275 miles. I would mean, all things being equal, that I would have about 235 miles when driving aggressively instead of 220 miles -...

    Mid range sandbagged?

Will there be EPA documents on the mid range so we can eventually decide for certain if the actual range on the mid range is longer than the official 260 miles?

Wider Pilot Sport 4S tires on stock 18-inch wheels installed and tested

For me it is the appearance that matters. I dont like the wheelarch gap, and if you lower it you just make it smaller in the top of the wheel and leave gaps on both sides of the wheel which is even worse. Maybe 245/45R18 helps just a little bit.
  34. A

Wider Pilot Sport 4S tires on stock 18-inch wheels installed and tested

I dont know much about tires, but I definitely find the wheelarch gap on the model 3 a bit too large visually. Could you use a tire even larger like 245/50R18? It would make the diameter 4,9% larger than original (1,3") according to the calculator in the link above. The speedometer would be off...

Wider Pilot Sport 4S tires on stock 18-inch wheels installed and tested

Very interesting. Thanks for the photos. Do you feel there is a visual difference in the wheel arch gap? It is not easy to see on the photos.

S70 RWD - Software limited vs. original

Thanks. That sounds great. Is there any sort of evidence to support this assasment that I can find somewhere?
  37. A

S70 RWD - Software limited vs. original

Yes, I dont think the EPA range changed. But it does not add up with the difference in usable capacity? And Tesla sometimes manipulate the ratings a bit, so it would be interesting to read the data report behind the 2015 model.
  38. A

S70 RWD - Software limited vs. original

I am considering a used 12/2015 S70 RWD which would be the original version with a 70 kWh battery (68,8 kwh usable) since the software limited version (65,9 kWh usable) presumably came in 2016. I can only find mpg info on EPA on the 2016 S70. Does anybody have knowledge about the range (real...

    More precise estimates?

I know all those things. But does anybody know if the estimates actually became quite accurate by this time of the ramp up proces with the S and the X?
  40. A

    More precise estimates?

I read somewhere that Tesla after the initial start of production phase actually made quite precise estimates of the ramp up of production of the S and X. Does anybody know og this is true? And should we therefore expect the new estimates to be quite accurate?

    Lug cap cover

Hi chojn1, Any progress on these covers? I am really looking forward to seeing pictures from a bit further away to have a better look at what it does to the visual impression of the aero wheels without the covers.

    Range and abetterrouteplanner

I am familiar with the way it works, and it is a great way to get a glimpse of life on the road in an EV :-) I know you can adjust settings for weather conditions - but still it all depends on the reference consumption being right. Therefore I am interested in real life experiences. Does ABRP...

  47. A

    Range and abetterrouteplanner

Those numbers are averages based and not very useful for this use. Abetterrouteplanner takes speed limits and elevation into account so if people plan according to their actual driving speed, the reference consumption seems a good way to get a feeling of real life range.

    Range and abetterrouteplanner

I am still choosing between the LR and SR version. For daily use SR is plenty but for the occasional long road trip it certainly has its limitations. I have found abetterrouteplanner quite helpful in exploring the differences between the two versions and in understanding what it is like...
