    Metal shavings in brake fluid

Update: owner says the vehicle was in a pretty decent front end collision, and needed a new iBooster, ABS pump, and a few other components. I’m going to assume this is the cause of the contamination, likely due to improper flushing. A full flush has been done, and the fluid is clean and clear now.

    Metal shavings in brake fluid

So, I’m sending out calipers from a 100D for paint, and I noticed the brake fluid draining from the calipers is loaded with metal shavings. I don’t have an analysis yet, but the fluid will be sent to the lab to see what’s going on. Has anyone seen this before?

    Exclusive first Model 3 Dyno

Dyno dynamics dynos read high. They also are funky with the torque, and the operator needs to be able to set the dyno up properly, or you’ll get a wild horsepower number and 200lb/ft of torque. This is what happened with the first model 3 we ran, and got 393hp for a car that should be getting...

    So...has anyone dyno'ed a P3D yet?

Did this happen? If not, find a place with an AWD dyno that’s linked. We used a non linked dyno for the model S, but I know the gear ratios for both motors. I don’t know the gear ratio for the front motor, so your torque reading could be way off if it’s significantly different than the rear...

Crashing an EV event with a Corvette, and it was awesome.

So, Rich Rebuilds came down to Long Island for our Supercharged Sunday Tesla Dyno day, and we had such a great time, and really learned a lot. Here's the video he put together poking fun at everyone lol

There's an issue with your car, then. I've stopped by twice, and the first time I had 60% battery and it hit 64kW, and the second time I was almost dead, and it hit 118kW and held above 100kW for about 15 minutes

Torque definition: "Torque, moment, or moment of force is rotational force.[1] Just as a linear force is a push or a pull, a torque can be thought of as a twist to an object. Torque is defined mathematically as the rate of change of angular momentum of an object. The definition of torque...

Sounds good to me. I’m trying to get dynojet to send out an engineer for the event, as they’d be able to do all kinds of stuff most operators don’t know how to do. If that happens, we will definitely have some fantastic data to go with everything.

Usually whatever gear is closest to 1:1, to minimize calculations, losses, and excessive torque.
  25. Mysterylectric

    Exclusive first Model 3 Dyno

Yes, torque is there. It's quite possible I'm completely misunderstanding the engineer, but I know I didn't mishear him when he said torque is not being measured. If you take the 2500lb drums, and flatten them out over however long, and measure how long it takes for the car to move the drum the...

But you are not seeing shaft horsepower. The dyno is not measuring shaft horsepower. Like I said, I was on the phone for 31 minutes going ever exactly how this dyno measures power. Torque is not a factor. Acceleration delta and roller mass are the factors used. The engineer made it very, very...

    Exclusive first Model 3 Dyno

I just spent 31 minutes on the phone with Dynojet Research regarding the 424xLC2 dyno we used for the 75D run. This dyno DOES NOT MEASURE TORQUE in an acceleration run. It uses an acceleration delta based off LINEAR force applied to the rollers, and calculates power based off that and the weight...
  31. Mysterylectric

    Exclusive first Model 3 Dyno

And since the rollers are weighted, and the dyno measures how long it takes to change velocity, it’s able to calculate the power without the need for a gearing input to measure torque.

You are more than welcome to call dynojet research and tel the engineers they are wrong.

Further, 1:1 is only the transmission gearing, and that is used so it removes a variable when running the calculation. There's still a differential that is not even close to 1:1, regardless of what car you are running. I can input a ratio of 5rpm per mph on this dyno, and it will read thousands...
  34. Mysterylectric

    Exclusive first Model 3 Dyno

Funny, because the guys who built the dyno are the ones who say that the dyno measures horsepower based on the speed and weight of the rollers, then calculates torque using the supplied gear ratio input. Check out the video I posted of the 75D, and you will notice that the torque number changes...
  35. Mysterylectric

    Exclusive first Model 3 Dyno

No, dynos do not measure torque. If they did, you’d be seeing numbers in the thousands. They have to reverse calculate the torque using the input gear ratio.

So, I had mentioned back in February, we were going to be setting up a dyno day. It's purely for fun and a "let's see what happens." 37. Mysterylectric

    Exclusive first Model 3 Dyno

Dynos measure horsepower, as they take the force applied to the roller, and the roller speed, which will never change based on gear ratios, etc. The torque applied to the rollers is in thousands of foot pounds, and the dyno must reverse calculate based on power and gear ratio input. Some dynos...
