Mysterious 5% range increase immediately after leaving Supercharger

That makes sense. It was a very hot day, and the charger was in direct sunlight. Thinking about it, most of my longer road trips have been in cooler conditions. The taper was worse than I recall, and I've been assuming that was because it was warmer.

Mysterious 5% range increase immediately after leaving Supercharger

For the first time in over 2 years, I took a multi-state, multi-supercharger road trip in my 2017 MX 100D (~50K miles). This is the first time I've supercharged in ~2 years. And wow, there are a lot more superchargers now than there were 2-3 years ago! But I noticed something odd I'd like...

Tesla ranks 2nd worst in Consumer reports reliability survey

My model X (2017, HW 2.5, see sig) is the most unreliable car I've ever owned. Its visited the service center more in my 4 years of ownership than my 3 previous ICE cars that I purchased new (1 VW, 2 priuses), and that includes routine maintenance on the ICE vehicles. Of the top of my head...

Creaking/Squeaking control arm ball joint fix

My 2017 MX with 39K miles just developed this, conveniently 1 day after my 4 year warranty expired. The service estimate is ~$1k. Upthread there were a few people that made it seem like there was a bulletin. It would be great to find out if that's true..

autopilot "bong" at loud volume through all spearkers

I have joe mode on.. I was very happy when they introduced that a ways back. Most of the time the bong works as it always used to, and comes from just the front left area and is quiet. About 1/5 times the bong comes through all speakers and is crushingly loud. There is generally a crackle...

autopilot "bong" at loud volume through all spearkers

Recently I've noticed that when listening to streaming audio (local NPR, via streaming since I did the MCU2 upgrade) autopilot "bong" are not just quiet & coming from the driver's speaker, but played at full volume from all speaker and take over from the streaming audio. Is this a known bug in...

homelink not working with Linear Mega Code MCT-3

Turns out it was just a signal strength issue with the remote. Opening the frunk allowed learning to succeed.

homelink not working with Linear Mega Code MCT-3

I just closed on a townhouse, and I can't get the garage door opener programmed into homelink in my MX100D. I've done this for 2 houses in the past, but I'm just not having any luck here. The basic issue is that I enter the learning mode, hold down the button on the opener pointed at my...

12/26/2020 Update changed the owners console

I got 2020.48.35.5 last night, and I was thrilled to see they increased the font size on the IC. I think it may actually be larger than it was previously.

12/26/2020 Update changed the owners console

I agree with your original post. I'm fine with how they moved things around, but the fonts for some things (esp the battery percentage & clock) are way too small. The speed is just a hair too small.

    rain related intermittent sensor failures

I've driven my 2017 MX 100D in the rain before, but I've never seen it behave as badly as it did last week when on a roadtrip. As I pulled out of a SuC, it started to rain (not even very hard), and I was given an alert that "Park Assist" was no longer available (repeatedly, and distractingly)...

    Recommendations on 22” aftermarket wheels

Thanks, your post was super helpful. I'm thinking about going from the factory 20"s to aftermarket 22"s on my Model X and don't want to loose range. It sounds like 22" TSS + DWS06 are a good compromise for much better appearance, moderately improved handling, and nearly identical range...

On-board route planning with better than rated efficiency?

I've got almost 25K on my X 100D, and due to tires that are well broken in, ideal temps, no rear seat passengers, and mystery factors, I've been getting between 320 and 340 kwh/mi at 70-75Mph, which is far better than the rated 384. This is a good problem to have, but there is a downside when...

36.10 green light chime FSD only?

I have FSD, have the chime, and I find myself wishing that the IDIOTS IN FRONT OF ME had the chime too! Imagine a world people actually started to move when the light turned green instead of staring at their phones, eating their sandwiches, or doing their makeup.

    Real world miles per kWh?

2017 MX 100D, lifetime of 339Kwh/mi For me at least, temperature and tire pressure seems to play a large role. On days when its over 55F, not raining, and my tire pressure is 44 or higher, i generally get better than the rated range. If the temps are much lower, especially if I have to run...

Spotify and Hulu included in 2019.32.10

Probably; that's a good idea. I guess the question is if I want to ever play anything else through the car, like some streaming audio that I can't get in the car..

Spotify and Hulu included in 2019.32.10

Just did my first drive with V10 and spotify, and making a new account for the car does seem like the best idea. The interface does not show me all the things that I see on the desktop app or on my phone (mostly the "made for you" stuff). I brought up my phone to try to get it to continue...

Spotify and Hulu included in 2019.32.10

The family accounts work as a collection of linked premium accounts, AFAICT. So there is nothing different about "family" accounts -- it is still one account per user, one stream per user. I didn't even think of that issue, and I agree that it will be even more important to support account...

Spotify and Hulu included in 2019.32.10

Can anybody who has the update tell me if Spotify supports quickly changing between multiple profiles? My music tastes are vastly different than my wife's or my son's. It would be nice if when they were in the car, I could quickly switch to one of their accounts and play music that they like...

Who Else Had ICE Ruined For Them?

I did the 2-day Porsche Track Experience in Birmingham a few weeks ago. This is the one where you drive a variety of 911 and 718 performance cars on a race track. My middle of the road MX 100D felt quicker than every car I drove there. Even with the PDK transmission, things were not instant...

Model X handling compare to Porsche Cayenne?

I have a Model X 100D (not performance). I recently did the Porsche Track Experience in Birmingham. I drove a 2019 Cayenne there in one of the off track exercises (trail braking and slalom). The Cayenne felt like it had a higher center of gravity and didn't seem as sure as my X. The lag of...

Anybody else with FSD just get an offer to upgrade to FSD?

I just got an email offer to upgrade to FSD. However, I purchased my car with FSD (back in 2017). I'm now paranoid that it somehow got removed in their system, and I'll need to somehow prove I have it. I just sent a customer support request.. I'm hoping its just a glitch.. Anybody else...

Steering wheels sometimes vibrate do to front tires

If it happens during acceleration, it might be the classic Model X "shudder". Does it disappear if the suspension is set to low or extra low? Does it get worse when the suspension is set to high?

    Software Update 2019.20.x

I have a very similar car to you (build date within a month, AP2.5, MCU1, X100D), and my dashcam worked fine on 2019.16.2. That's fascinating how much day to day difference there likely is to these cars..

    Software Update 2019.20.x

I paid for FSD before delivery, and have set the advanced button to enabled, and have a strong WIFI signal in my garage, but I've not gotten an update yet (since the one that brought the advanced button). I think its a switch not connected to anything.

Is the current NoA helpful or harmful?

I just returned from a 1400 mile road trip on 2019.12.1, and NOA was indeed helpful. I did NOT let it change lanes on its own, but let it prompt me. I'd say about 40% of the prompts were stupid or useless. Lots of times I'd be driving along in the right lane, and i'd be prompted to move left...

New software, new bugs and new stupid "features"

Thanks again for the touch-to-open suggestion. I think I vaguely remember seeing that on some Tesla vids that I watched before I bought the car years ago, but I never needed to use it until this update!

New software, new bugs and new stupid "features"

To be honest, I was not aware that was even an option. Until this update, the button on the charger has always opened the port. I'll have to try that, thanks!
  31. D

New software, new bugs and new stupid "features"

To add to your rant.. I've see 3 new-to-me bugs in my MX100D with this 12.1.1 update: 1) BT audio controls loose sync with my Pixel2. Eg, spotify will be playing a song, but the MCU displays a song from a long time ago, and the playback controls don't work. I notice this right when it plays...

Suspension settings for shudder & tire wear?

Thanks, I did not know it was adjustable to "always". I will do that. Do we have a definition of "later cars" ? Mine is a Sept 2017 build (one of the very first with AP2.5 hw).
  33. D

Suspension settings for shudder & tire wear?

I have a late 2017 MX100D. With the suspension in Standard mode or higher, I have shudder with moderate to hard acceleration. I have reported it to Tesla, and they say its normal and to just use low mode. With the suspension set on low or very low, all is well. There have been a lot of...

Why NO Spotify for Canadians or USA

I did not realize that there was an app for the MCU. I'd really like to be able to just have the app & sign in with my own spotify account. Especially since I have been having a lot of bluetooth weirdness on the latest update.

    2019.12.1 update

I hope there are some bug fixes in 12.1.2 WRT to bluetooth, as my Pixel2 again lost sync with the MCU until I rebooted the MCU.

    2019.12.1 update

My bluetooth has been fine since the reboot. However, I had some more flakiness that I've never seen before in the 1.5 years I had the car. This morning, while running errands, it was telling me "cruise not available" for a short (5 mile) drive where it has always worked fine. It also was...

    2019.12.1 update

I got 12.1.1 last night. I'm not sure if it is related, but the bluetooth music interface wigged out today for the first time that I can recall. I was playing Spotify on my Pixel2. Things seemed normal at first, then one song got stuck on the MCU screen even after the phone moved on to play...

Incorrect Speed Limits + Autopilot = Sad Tesla

Surface street or highway, bad speed limit information is annoying and/or dangerous, AP or not. Remember that Teslas display the speed limit, whether or not you are using AP. This can influence human drivers as well as AP. My personal pet peeve is that it doesn't catch updated highway...

Why does my car allow me to scrape my wheels on the curb?

I wonder if Tesla could do something like Land Rover's "transparent hood", and if that would help. See https://jalopnik.com/the-2020-range-rover-evoque-lets-you-see-through-the-ho-1830614257 Personally, I *always* back into spaces and carefully watch the side mirror, so its not a huge deal...

2019.8.5 Charger Handle Won't Unlock Door

I had the same experience on my car. I also did not link it to 2019.8.5. Never the less, my mobile adapter will open the charge port again after last nights update to 2019.8.6. Thinking back on it, I had a 100% failure rate with 2019.8.5

    Sentry mode first impressions

I'm looking forward to getting this on my X. In terms of smash and grabs.. Will the car alarm deter thieves like those in the Bay Area that are brazenly just breaking windows and letting themselves in? It seems like if not, they'll eventually learn to grab the USB stick along with your...

    AP2 vs AP2.5

MCU2 is not needed for the dashcam. I have an AP2.5 Model X with MCU1 and the dashcam feature is enabled in my car. My understanding is that AP2.5 is what is needed for the dashcam (no idea why).

    Software Update 2018.48.x

You can turn the climate on, then enter the cold weather menu to turn seats & steering wheel on. Then re-enter the climate and turn off the heat/ac , and just leave the seats on. This used to work as recently as my last update (42?). It has been warm here since I got 48, so I hope that still...

    Supercharger - Staunton, VA

We sometimes travel from the Richmond metro area to visit relatives OH, and take the I64 -> US250 -> I79 route, since it is more scenic. We haven't done that since getting the Tesla due to range anxiety. But it looks like new superchargers have opened since our last trip, and will re-enable...

"Autopilot unavailable for remainder of drive"

I'd strongly prefer the camera to the wheel torque. But isn't the camera model 3 only? I have an APHW3 (eg, AP2.5) Model X, and I don't (think) I have an interior camera.
  47. D

"Autopilot unavailable for remainder of drive"

If one hand works for you, that's great. Perhaps this thread is not for you, esp. since it seems worse for AP2.5 cars. The problem is that "one hand on the wheel": 1) Is not enough for some cars without applying extra torque, which is potentially unsafe if AP disengages. 2) Goes against...
  48. D

"Autopilot unavailable for remainder of drive"

As a previous poster mentioned, the sensors seem to be tuned to different amount of torque in different cars. In my AP2.5-2017 MX, I have to apply enough force that if AP were not engaged, I'd quickly steer into the ditch. Applying that much torque to the wheel goes against habits formed over...

    On the fence...

I was also considering the XC90 plug in, and we decided on the MX. What really did it for me was the lurch/hesitation from the engine firing up and the transmission hunting for a gear when I punched it to merge on my test drive. This was compared to silky-smooth behavior from the Tesla we...
