Blog Tesla Discounts Basic Autopilot – $2,000 Until July 1

I agree. Kind of feel like we've been cheated, however, I didn't like it when I tried, so part of me likes that I don't have it since you can't turn it off.

Blog Tesla Discounts Basic Autopilot – $2,000 Until July 1

Given the following: I tried Basic AP twice two years ago. Hated it both times, because: Too slow to accelerate when changing lanes to pass Didn't like being pinned to the middle of the lane (I prefer to bias away from surrounding cars) It's a commuter / around town car for me. 10 miles on...

    Funniest Tesla Question Thread

I doubt it was malice. People clearly want a way to compare the "fuel" consumption to other cars, so I just answer with 130mpge.

    Tire Size Comparison

Fantastic! Here are the details for the TMY 20": Diameter 28" Width 10" Sidewall 4" Circum. 88" Revs/Mile 720 In terms of sidewall, the Y 20" is in between the 3 18" and 19". Fantastic! Will convince the wife to get the 20" when the time comes, as I like those much better.

    Bug in "dumb" cruise control

Doh. I can now confirm, as others noted, this is still present on version 2019.40.50.7. :(

    Bug in "dumb" cruise control

Someone else!! I posted this thread a couple weeks ago, but didn't get any response. I think this has finally been fixed on version 2019.40.50.7, but I'm not 100% sure, as I haven't been doing anything but going back and forth to work. What version are you on?

    Newbie questions

No one really knows, but I would speculate late 2020 at best if you order now. As has been said, we don't know how many orders they currently have, when it's going into production (for real), what the distribution will look like, etc. A few things we do know: There are already some orders...

Yeah, those gap tolerances look much tighter than my 3. And I don't even have an early build.

That's actually a good point. I feel like there's a carpet in mine, so I didn't even think about that.

Keep infrequently used stuff up there. It does serve as the pizza compartment every couple of weeks though.

Short term storage in Colorado Springs?

Also, here's a side question: Going from Springs to Durango in April- I am assuming there's a decent chance of snowy conditions? This is the primary reason I'd be looking at renting a vehicle. My 3 is RWD with fairly worn stock tires.

Short term storage in Colorado Springs?

This is likely a bit of a long-shot, but does anyone know of a good place to stash a car for a couple of days? We will be visiting the area in the spring, and are looking to spend a couple days in the mountains. To do so, we'll likely need to rent a different car and leave the Tesla for a...

    Cruise engagement failure on hills

Neither. Dumb cruise is all I have. Probably one of the five people that didn't pony up for TACC/AP back when it was a paid option :-) Also, just to be clear, I'm not doing anything funny. Just normal cruising on the highway. Everything worked as expected until a v10.
  14. G

    Cruise engagement failure on hills

I do not have AP, so no steering wheel. But the circle around the speed darkens like it should.

    Cruise engagement failure on hills

I have a bug related to cruise engagement recently, and it's the only bug that I've found really annoying in a year of ownership. I believe this started with v10, and I'm currently on 2019.40.50.1: When going up a steep hill and attempting to engage cruise, the display indicates that it's been...

    Phantom drain in cold

That is an interesting theory that I hadn't considered and makes some logical sense. While I'm quite sure I didn't wake the car more than once in the last two days, I could certainly test your theory during the next cold snap (going to be warmer here the next few days).

    Phantom drain in cold

@jboy210 I appreciate the response, but I'm well aware of the effect, and was not checking the app at all. Since I see no more than 1mi/hr when using sentry (car always on), there must be something else going on for it to be 5x higher than that. Really, I'm looking for someone to corroborate...
  19. G

    Phantom drain in cold

Yes. Just for the last two days while at work. At normal temps, even with sentry on it's only like 1mi/hr.
  20. G

    Phantom drain in cold

Yes, I have cabin overheat enabled, but AFAIK it doesn't do anything in cold. Yes, I use Stats app, but as I said, I have not changed anything here. And I'm only talking about when it's outside in the cold; drain when in the garage hasn't changed. Edit: Also, just verified Stats app hasn't...

    Best Way to Charge Overnight?

If your phone is iOS, use the Stats app: Set the Smart Battery Prep to bump it 5-10% an hour or so before you plan to leave, and set the car to start charging at 11pm. That way it'll charge most of the way at 11pm, and the last 5-10% just before you leave in the morning.
  22. G

    Phantom drain in cold

Over the last couple of days it's been fairly cold here- highs around 30F or so and cloudy (so, internal car temp is also around 30F). While parked at work (outside), I've been seeing phantom drain at a rate of 5mi/hr, instead of my usual 0.4mi/hr. No sentry or summon or anything on; haven't...

Range on midrange reduced to 219 miles

There's no way you were getting 220 @ 80%. That would be 275 @ 100%. If you're now getting 209 @ 85%, that's 246 @ 100%, or about 7% less than rated (264). That's a bit on the lower end of what I've heard, but it's certainly not unreasonable IMO. Batteries degrade. And they've probably done...

    New battery degradation monitoring tool

    Defog and A/C

Auto is the only way I can seem to keep the car from fogging. But it uses far more energy than I'd like when it's cool outside. I think it cycles too often... I don't need it to be exactly 69 degrees at all times; I'd much prefer the system attempted to keep it within a 5 degree range using as...

Parked in a garage with 18% charge and no plug, will I be able to drive home later?

I would not cut it as close as you're suggesting at anything other than ideal (70-80 degree) temps. I'd go out at lunch.

Tesla Model Y Long Range vs AWD

I would also like the range to be a bit higher. Wife wants AWD, so that's not a whole lot more than my MR 3; 280 vs ~250. 250 isn't quite enough to be comfortable, as we are a bit short on chargers around here. 300 would make me feel a little better.

Range on midrange reduced to 219 miles

Do you mean to say that it was lower, and now it has gone up to 244? What software version are you on now?
  34. G

Range on midrange reduced to 219 miles

Not initially, no. It was 250-something (256? 258?) When they bumped the LR RWD to 325, they bumped the MR to 264.

Tesla model Y will kill the crossover competition

It's really too bad we can't use CCS. More chargers are needed, and EA doesn't do Tesla owners in the US any good, or vise-versa.

Info from pictures of this LR M3, 2018?

Uncle Don is correct in that it may not have any of the autopilot options. However, it does have full premium interior, because they all did at that time.

Info from pictures of this LR M3, 2018?

It's not SR/SR+ because those weren't in production until spring 2019. If it's late 2018 production and single motor, it's either LR RWD or MR RWD. Edit: I think it's late Dec 2018, because mine is early Dec, and this VIN is <1k past mine.

Mid-range changes in range or battery degradation

@eethan, you may be right, but I didn't respond to that survey since it wasn't for MR. But of course we basically have the LR pack. Maybe we should do a survey just for the MR users. Probably not statistically accurate with only a half dozen responses ;)

10-20% range drop - is it 2019.36.2.1 or "cold" weather?

If you're starting out with a 50 degree car/battery, that will consume more energy for sure. Optimal temp is around 80.

How to turn off the automatic navigation to work and home?

Well, it has already saved me from traffic once, so I'm leaving it on! Just turning off the sound. As I was getting ready to leave work, I noticed the nav had me take a different route, and sure enough, there was a traffic disaster on my normal route.

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

The reason I suggested 60% above instead of 50% is that someone on here had some evidence that 3.91V was optimal, which if you look at the chart I posted is just above 60%. (Coincidentally (?), that is also where the curve flattens out.)

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

I have very little data to back this up, but I think the general recommendation should be: Center your typical use around 60% to maximize battery longevity, if possible. 1+ times per month, include a charge session from <40% to >90% for BMS calibration. Never let the battery sit at > 90%...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

I doubt going to 90% is going to fix anything for you. Based on this chart (which I pulled from someone else's post), I think going down to a SOC lower than 50% and charging up relatively high will be more likely to help, because that will give the BMS a larger voltage difference to work with.
