Is the cost of PPF worth it?

2018 Model 3, 71K miles, black. No PPF. I’ve driven on a number of unpaved roads over the years. There’s maybe one spot on the hood that is showing some primer (very small), it’s not noticeable unless you’re really looking for it. Nothing touchup paint can’t fix. I don’t see the value...

Model 3 rwd now charging at 48 amps [after HV battery replacement]

It’s not actually the battery that matters - it’s the onboard AC-DC charger.

How many [lifetime] miles do you have?

2018 - 61,000 miles.. flawless until yesterday whe then the main pyro fuse blew and car had to be towed. Hopefully have diagnosis Monday. Reported range at 100% is ~ 278 miles. Usually charged to 70% or 80%; 90-100 only right before very long trips.

MXM4 Second set wear warranty - will they credit towards Pilot Sport AS4’s?

Hi there! I’ve worn through my second set of MXM4’s (2018 Model 3 18” Aero), this time at about 27K miles (2/32 - 3/32 per tire). I had this set ‘discounted’ by Michelin when the original MXM4’s hit 3/32s @ 23K miles. Does Michelin give money back for the tires premature wear if I switch to...

MASTER THREAD: Powering house or other things with Model 3

I've read through the entire thread but don't see any examples. Has anyone successfully tapped into the Subwoofer power source for powering an inverter? My use case is I'd like to charge an Ecoflow Delta battery @ 200 or 300 watts while using that battery to power something like a fridge...

Solar Roof Questions - Can you mix roof types? Is $250 deposit required to get an exact quote? Gutter size?

Thanks - I'm not in a rush here so just wanted to explore a bit first

Solar Roof Questions - Can you mix roof types? Is $250 deposit required to get an exact quote? Gutter size?

Hi there! I just moved; previous house had Tesla solar panels + Powerwall. The new house has a large *attached* garage/workshop (2160 sq ft) that has a roof in better shape than the rest of the house. My two main questions are: 1. Will Tesla work with you to do only a partial roof...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I think the remote productivity totally depends upon experience, individual work ethic, and the role. If you limit your company to specific physical job markets then you have limited access to talent, period. There are always people who can't be productive remotely, but there are plenty that...

Range on road trip much lower than expected (<200 miles on full charge)

What’s the wh/mile difference between the 19” Gemini wheel+tire package vs the 20s? On the model 3 there is a significant range reduction (15-20% at highway speed?) stepping up wheel size because you also get stickier tires. Lastly 3-6 additional psi on the tires (stay within spec..) can make...

Going to order a new Model 3 performance. Should I consider the long range AWD?

Long Range with the $2K acceleration boost is really close in acceleration.. and you can still have the 18" Aeros with that combo for maximum range and efficiency .. Dragtimes showed them extremely close even on the top end acceleration:

Retrofit CCS compatibility onto earlier (NA) Model 3 - DIY approach

FalconFour - when the CCS chargers report high temperatures and start throttling -- does the temperature stay at "170F" (70C) or does it keep climbing and further throttling? How long have you left running? Where are you seeing 170F reported? Thanks.

Charging at home dropped to 20amps?

recommend finding a local L2 charger and seeing if you get more than 20A charging there just as a quick test.. (plugshare.net can help find something if needed..)

MASTER THREAD: Powering house or other things with Model 3

I saw mention in this thread of the subwoofer circuit being a safe place to grab 300W or so (30A fuse?) - has anyone actually used this successfully for a power source? If yes, what did you power and for how long? Is it safe enough to just unplug the subwoofer/amp and connect your load or is...

MASTER THREAD: Powering house or other things with Model 3

Awesome! So you just got the Yeti 1000X or Core, maybe - and is it just leave the car in camp more (climate control off) and it'll keep that 12V powered on?

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

OK Excellent data and that helps me a ton! Thank you! (I also find the tremendous difference between 25C and 40C very interesting; ex: I think if I lived in a desert area like Phoenix AZ I'd be much more likely to keep the SoC around 50% during the summer than living in colder climates)...

MASTER THREAD: Powering house or other things with Model 3

I've been thinking about this setup myself as I'm about to move and won't have panels or powerwalls for some years at the new house (a bit of a fixer upper, and the roof needs replacement first). The Goal Zero will allow trickle charging via a 12V car adapter while it powers higher power...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Fair and great points as always - I appreciate the chemistry difference call out there too. I guess from a math perspective, using the square root principal - if you have two situations where the first year is either 1.5% or 5% degradation due to SoC differences (per original paper) - at 5...

Retrofit CCS compatibility onto earlier (NA) Model 3 - DIY approach

Since the connector with the different pinout appears to be the black cable that directly connects to the Charge port (per the video), is it possible that replacing the charge port door assembly with a newer version would be sufficient to get this working? (I'm overly optimistic here because I...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

I’ve been thinking about this and AAKEE’s posts a bit more. AAKEE pointed to a really good study here: https://publications.lib.chalmers.se/records/fulltext/249356/249356.pdf If you go down to section 5.2.1 (page 50), they have a similar chart/graph but out to 700 days or about 2 years...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Hey there - love the chart and explanations. Two questions - 1. Do driving patterns have any substantial impact on battery life over the miles? for example, a higher C-Rate discharge should age Lithium faster, but not sure if frequent hard acceleration from 0-80 or whatever actually matters...

Model 3 creaking noise from below rear bench seat during sudden acceleration/deceleration

I don't have the creak (Q3 2018 3D) but I do have a light rattle noise or thump/click that occurs when accelerating off the line, or occasionally on my driveway (which slopes up and twists a little bit). It sounds like it's coming from under the rear seats so I'm assuming rear suspension or...

If 24 kWh per 100 miles is EPA best/reported consumption, what is typical for great, average and poor driving?

A lot of factors - but it does take work to hit the 24kWh/100 miles rating. You basically need: Aero wheels (covers help, and the 18" wheels are better than the 19s for efficiency), full pressure tires (45 psi), stock tires (i.e. the Michelins are pretty efficient, aftermarket tires *will*...

Want recommendation for quality 5-20 male to 5-15 male adapter to use with 15 Amp circuit/12A load

I'll be doing some traveling, and would like to use one extension cord for either 120V/15A or 120V/20A charging. However, the male end on the 5-20 extension cord of course won't fit in a 5-15 wall socket. I'd like to use a cheap 5-20 to 5-15 adapter in case I end up at a location with a 5-15...

Creaking sound from left front suspension

Has anyone succesfully gotten them replaced with the occasional loud creak? I very rarely get a sound that sounds like a loose bolt or nut -- i.e if i'm backing down a driveway and there is an angle and twist i'll hear some kind of pop sound.. but driving anywheres else, cornering (even very...

Speculation on the reason for the refresh delay

Curious if they’ve pushed the performance too far even on the updated 18650 chemistry. 0-60 in under 2 seconds is going to be a pretty high C rate of discharge. They also want this pack durable for the long term.

MASTER THREAD: Powering house or other things with Model 3

On the warranty piece - the Tesla warranty explicitly states that using your car as a stationary power source violates the warranty. (In theory they could use this against a inverter plugged into the 12V line), but at the very least if you damage something you might be without a car for a while...
