14-50P and 14-50R

I just saw a post on cl for a 50A (allegedly) extension cord that terminated in 14-50P and 14-50R

My question is: What's the P and the R for? Prong and Recepticle maybe?

Why not M and F for Male and Female ... or is that just too carnal?

i thought it was plug and receptacle

never know what an electrical device will identify as so cant use male and female

Doh! of course ... Plug

Mind you, in England we call Receptacles Plugs

...and also call them Sockets, but Plugs are always Plugs, so we might put a plug into a Plug

Personally I'd call it a Duplex Outlet
