Isn't the performance of the 75D si.ilar to the non D, P85 cars?

Close, but not NEARLY as fun to drive. With the RWD P85 cars you can still make the back end do some fun stuff that you have zero shot at with the D cars.

Officially, the 0-60 times are both 4.2s.
Unofficially, what is reported is that the P85 is closer to 3.9s, and the 75D uncorked is around the 4.1-4.2s mark.

Rwd p85s are on Craigslist for $42k. Sounds like charging $20k for autopilot.
2013 Tesla P85+ Fully loaded all options 59k miles black / tan
As you noted, that car does not have Autopilot. It's also a year older, and it has 60K miles vs. 38K miles. But having AP is a very large difference all by itself, as it enables a highly desirable set of features (Autosteer, Traffic-Aware Cruise Control, Collision Avoidance, Automatic Emergency Braking, Automatic Lane Change, Autopark, and Summon.)

If you want a Performance RWD car without Autopilot, those cars are out there and can be had more cheaply. Your options are more limited if you want both Performance RWD and Autopilot, as less than 400 of that configuration were built (in the last quarter of 2014, right before the P85 and P85+ were discontinued.)
