So am I the first to notice that they really dumbed down the rear bumper? I am not enticed. They didn't give it the X's tail lights either which I suppose I understand. The headlights really needed attention, but this bumper. They sucked the sportiness right out of the rear valence.

How can you see that?!!....I cannot tell.
Thinking the same. They probably will wait to drain the 70/90 battery inventory before announcing the 75/100 combo. There is really no need to keep both 70 and 75 packs at the same time.

As of right now I doubt it. Probably upped the Model X just to keep Power to weight the same.

Also doubt everything is retrofitable because
What is difference between automated liftgate and power lift gate. when I read automated in standard features I thought the power one was included now

The powerlift gate (same as auto just diff wording) used to be part of the premium interior package. Originally it was part of the tech and it moved to premium. Now they made it standard which is part of the price increase.

So from the looks of it the "price increase" is associated with value as you get the center console standard, new body panels, and power liftgate now included.

Just received this email:

At Tesla, we are relentlessly committed to making product improvements. Model S and Model X are unique in how much they get better over time, even after you buy them.

In this spirit, the Model S nose and headlights have been changed to be similar to the Model X. Because you have already placed your order, these will be applied to your Model S at no additional cost to you.

Your Model S delivery is on track and will not be impacted by these updates. Welcome to Model S – we know you're going to love it.

2016 Tesla Model S gets first styling update since launch

The Tesla Model 3 electric sedan has been dominating the internet for the past couple of weeks, what with more than 300,000 early adopters putting down deposits for a car that they won't be able to get for about two years.

But there is a Tesla sedan that people can buy right now. It's the Model S, and Tesla has just announced its first styling update since it was released in June 2012.

Model S luxury sedans produced starting today will have a new front-end design. The oval "grille" of the earlier Model S is gone. After all, there is no engine under the hood to cool. The headlights and smooth front panel design resembles that of the Model X crossover SUV and the smaller Model 3.

That means the 2016 model lineup will be split, with the first cars featuring the original design and the new models sporting a different face.

DON'T MISS: Tesla Model 3 first ride

But those aren't all the changes. Tesla is also upgrading the onboard charger from 40 amps to 48 amps, which will result in faster charging times where higher-amperage charging stations are available.

Inside, Tesla is adding the HEPA air-filtration system introduced on the Model X as an option and offering two new choices of interior trim: Dark Ash Wood Décor or Figured Ash Wood Décor.

It should be noted that these hardware changes are separate from the software updates that Tesla periodically sends out over the air to owners who give permission for the new features.

An article on CNet last week suggested that the Model S would adopt the front seats from the Model X, but that was not mentioned in today's announcement. Rumors of a 100-kilowatt-hour battery pack also haven't been proven correct.

It appears that the changes come with a price increase. We configured a base rear-wheel-drive Model S with the 70-kwh battery pack on Tesla's website, and it showed a base price of $72,700, including destination. That is a $1,500 increase over last week's pricing.

The new look is very nice and ties in the entire model line cohesively.
I am in the minority who prefers the old nose cone.
Love the lights and the standard wood (sad I missed that). I don't miss the center console because my wife wanted the open center console for her purses (and her purses cost way more than any console....unfortunately for me =)
Still glad I got the "classic" S just before the refresh - although I can't be sure until I see the new one in the "wild."
I still think there will be more to come with battery upgrades - which unlike the announcement today will make me jealous.

Congrats to those who are getting the "new" S!

Wifey likes to put her purse in my center console open space as well, and they do cost much more than that center console--happy wife....

I really hope I can retrofit those LED headlights! My car is black, so my classic nosecone sort of blends in nicely anyway...

I was all ready to start selling stock today in anticipation of ordering. However, since we all know the 100 is coming out in the near future, I will continue to sit patiently on the sidelines. Looking forward to the speculation on when they will push out the 100. Definitely seems clear (to me at least) that the future options will be 75/100.

I agree with this. (I have MS on order, ordered before this face-lift). The nose cone gives a place behind which you can mount things requiring RF such as radar detector, toll transponder, and other small antennas. Not sure where you will put things like that in the new design, if the windshield still blocks radio frequencies.

I don't think they changed it. One is glossy reflective outdoor, and one is a rendering. Looking at every little detail, they seem to line up.
