    Weird intermittent dash resonance

Anyone else have a rattle in their dash pad on the right side MCU? I've had it in twice but it's intermittent so they haven't been able to replicate. Then I'll be out on a road-trip and it decides to sing me the song of its people for 45 minutes (sort of a resonance over rough pavement) It...

    Independent Shops in SoCal?

So update for anyone interested in this thread. Called Executive Motorworks and they can do the door handle rebuild. Labor about $300 (Kit is $170) Probably better than getting a new handle from Tesla that will fail eventually Estimator at Diamond said this was something I'd need to go to...

Thanks. Contacted them to see what the options are Thanks to COVID Manhattan Beach is a lot shorter drive than it usually is.

    Independent Shops in SoCal?

Well the day finally arrived (1k miles after the warranty expired), my passenger door handle is presenting but not opening. I ordered the part and am planning on doing the fix myself since i've taken doors on my other cars apart before and the Electrified Garage's guide doesn't look too bad...

    1 year NVH warranty

yeah this sounds more like metal on metal in the latch. I told them not to do it and i'll just pop the trim and see what's going on in there.
  7. twonius

    1 year NVH warranty

No this was an hour of labor quoted to insulate the trunk. They explicitly said it wouldn't be covered. I'm just curious if the 1 year NVH limitation was always a thing or if it was implemented later.
  8. twonius

    1 year NVH warranty

Yeah but they can't retroactively change the warranty from when i bought the car. I had an issue this spring where they tried to claim my Mobile connector was out of warranty even though it was still under the cars warranty so now i'm always a bit suspicious
  9. twonius

    1 year NVH warranty

Did i just space out on this? I bought my car in August 2016 and I don't remember that being a thing but today at the service center they said they didn't want to take another shot at the rattle in my tailgate unless I supplied $195. I'd heard of it as a new thing but I don't remember it...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

I wasn't sure since I had a loaner 75D a few months ago that had much clearer yellowing. It was more saturated and in a narrower band.

Elon Confirms S & X Are Chopped Liver

Calculating drag, or doing small scale wind tunnel testing isn't new. X is only about ~15% less efficient than the S. This would put a Y at about 210 miles with similar trade offs. Also, looking at the Kona, I'm not sure what Hyundai knows that Tesla wouldn't have back then.

Elon Confirms S & X Are Chopped Liver

really if you don't do long trips and don't care that much about sub 4 second 0-60 an eTron would satisfy the OPs wishes for model S money.
  16. twonius

Elon Confirms S & X Are Chopped Liver

I mean you can like the model 3 while also thinking it was a mistake. Just ask most of our parents.
  17. twonius

Elon Confirms S & X Are Chopped Liver

My really hot take is that the 3 shouldn't exist and they should've just built a $50k Y to start off. Small sedans are dying in favor of CUVs, so why launch a small sedan?
  18. twonius

Elon Confirms S & X Are Chopped Liver

I mean it sounds crazy even to me but if they'd set the goal post at $40-$45k instead of $35k they'd probably have done a lot better. Volume would've been lower but they also wouldn't have had to build out as much capacity (and a tent) to build 1/2 as many cars. I guess some would complain...
  19. twonius

Elon Confirms S & X Are Chopped Liver

I'll trust the marketing people on Tesla for this one. If you're in the market for an S75D are you really going to pay ~$30k more than a long range dual motor 3? Maybe the 3 is too cheap?
  20. twonius

Elon Confirms S & X Are Chopped Liver

If pricing on the S had remained similar wouldn't they have an even bigger drop in S sales on their hands? At this level an S seems like a somewhat logical step up for someone who can afford a M3P but isn't in love with the styling or interior, or just likes a bigger car.

Elon Confirms S & X Are Chopped Liver

Hey! I like the switchgear! :) Additional AP functionality seems to be the lever they're pulling to induce Fomo. but the trade in values they're offering are also a pretty bitter pill to swallow right now for anyone who didn't lease. Tesla's paint booth is pretty maxed out at this point but...

Elon Confirms S & X Are Chopped Liver

I see S/X resting on their laurels until a year or two after Taycan is out for S and maybe a 3 row SUV from someone Finish this sentence: "Model S hasn't had its styling updated in 4 years. I think I'll buy a ______ instead" And really with Raven they're not even standing still.

GM Won’t Cut Chevy Bolt Price Amid Lower Tax Incentive

Yeah seems like a combination of the end of truly crazy lease deals ($99 eGolfs) and cars finally packing more usable range (200 miles). Although you can still get Leafs at CarMax all day for $7500 which is kind of a screaming deal. At least we're starting to see at least some EV for every...

GM Won’t Cut Chevy Bolt Price Amid Lower Tax Incentive

Wow. I just checked used values around me and there's a few CPOs with 30k miles on them for $27k. Seems a bit high considering. I would've expected to see at least a few in the low 20's high teens. but nope.

Tesla Model 3 Was #1 Selling Car In Netherlands In March 2019

"thousands of dollars" to install 220v line in condo building

I think they were trying to figure out what was the best place to pull it from and see where they'd need to come through the wall from. But yeah it was a bit excessive. They called in a couple senior guys at the end and they figured it out in 5 minutes. Tesla just dropped in 24 supercharger...

"thousands of dollars" to install 220v line in condo building

had another electrician come out. It ended up being 4 guys for an hour brainstorming this one. What they came up with was running a new sub panel for my unit which would enable 50A service to the garage. 50' conduit run into the garage $3400. which is basically what I spend on charging in 7...

"thousands of dollars" to install 220v line in condo building

I'm getting a quote to see if before I proceed. But it's a small building (5 units) and I'm on the board. We have private garages in the basement though. So this isn't like putting in a chargepoint or something.
  31. twonius

"thousands of dollars" to install 220v line in condo building

Yeah i have a 110 in my garage as well that's already on my meter. Only spits out about 5A since it's shared with one of the bedrooms. Putting that on its own breaker would probably be a good low(er) cost alternative.
  32. twonius

"thousands of dollars" to install 220v line in condo building

Yeah i had a friend get a similar quote for an EV charger in his newbuild condo. My guess is they're figuring you'll just check the box because relative to the total outlay it's so small and you'll really want it plus you're financing it over XX years at a good rate and view it as increasing...

"thousands of dollars" to install 220v line in condo building

I just had an electrician come out to quote running a 220 line from my condo's panel to to my garage (garage is below the unit). He didn't even want to touch it, said it would be at least $4k which was driven more by running the conduit than any panel upgrades. This seems a bit surprising...

    Shortcut to toggle Chill Mode?

Really just 100% throttle is probably the best solution. If I'm flooring it I probably don't want to be in Chill mode anymore. Maybe add a time threshold ( > 0.5 seconds) to prevent accidental disengagement. Just feather in the extra power so it's not too abrupt of a transition. Car reverts...

Mobile connector very picky on 110V

Maybe. I tried another plug which is on a relatively short run to a completely separate panel (condo building) and it showed the same behavior so the whole place would have to have sketchy connections.
  39. twonius

Mobile connector very picky on 110V

If I was tripping the GFCI i'd expect the whole plug to go dark after that but if I plug in again it gives me a green light and then tries to charge again.

Mobile connector very picky on 110V

Is anyone else's mobile connector extremely picky about whether it wants to work on 110? I've had it work fine on an extension cord in some buildings while in others it wont charge on any of the plugs. On 220 I never have an issue. I've been trying to use it in my new garage but when I plug...

EV Purists Take Note: A Ton Of Plug-in Hybrids Are Coming

The crazy thing is how much PHEVs aren't even on normal people's radars. I had 2 friends buy Pacificas this year. Neither knew the PHEV was cheaper with the tax credit. My theory is that in the 2020's battery prices will mean you'll be paying a lot for the occasional convenience of a gas range...

EV Purists Take Note: A Ton Of Plug-in Hybrids Are Coming

I'd need to go back to the source material but it'd be interesting to see at which battery cost point it reaches PHEV parity where it's just cheaper to go full EV. Considering how close we are to the $100/kwh benchmark I'd guess we're already there or even past the benchmark.
