2017 S fob not working after service visit

As soon as the car returned from service, the key fob that DIDN'T go to service now is no longer paired with the car. The other fob still works fine. I've tried to update the unpaired fob and the car still sees it as it says the unpaired key is up to date. The working fob was nowhere near the car so it wasn't sensing the other fob. Matter of fact, the key update screen addresses each key as "v1" and "v2". I vaguely remember this happening at a different service visit where only one key went but I don't recall if it was the 2017 S or the old 2013. Has anyone had similar and is there a remedy other than a service visit? Again, the car sees it since it says it's up to date. Also, the battery is new but it was inop before the battery swap. It was no longer paired as soon as it returned from service.
