Using the X for camping would be fun, but I had the tow package from Torqlift Central on my last Model S and towed a light trailer around with ease. Just saying, the S can also tow, though I never put much weight on the hitch: I think 200 lb tongue weight and 2000 lb gross. If you're not needing a lot of tow weight capability, the S can be used easily. Check with Torqlift.

For any used vehicle you should get the image of what is included via the menu option 'software' then 'additional vehicle information' dialog. My image below.

The tow package came with a under the dashboard plug+wire to hook an electric brake up for towning as well.
