I wanted to first thank TMC for helping to get the word out about Tour de Tesla - A Southern California Police Escorted Drive!
We 'soft-launched' it a month ago and already have 31 cars signed up & 69 spots remaining.

Tour de Tesla is now going to kick it in to high gear this week with marketing and announcements of more surprises. Two weeks remain! Full disclosure, I'm just a fan-boy receiving no remuneration but just longing for a 'top-shelf' Tesla Rally experience like we had in years gone by. So I approached Tesla with this idea to rekindle the Tesla Run; they loved the idea but had no man-power (or woman-power, sorry Bonnie) to devote to it. So I approached my friend, Elie who was an exhibitor at Teslive. I know that he's done these events for other car manufacturers & most recently Italian Stampede with a 3-mile long police motorcade escorted processional that traveled 8/15/13 all the way from Chatsworth to Monterey for Concours d'Elegance! Elie said yes & Tesla said yes. They are still in final negotiations as to nailing down destination logistics, swag, and lunch, but here's what we do know:

    • Sunday, September 8, 2013 @ around 9:30 AM
    • Starts at the Hawthorne SuperCharger Station / Tesla Design Center / SpaceX
    • Tesla Motors is hosting continental breakfast & a few keynote speeches
    • Tesla Motors & Tour de Tesla to provide 'swag bags'
    • Police Motorcade escorted rally will drive around 30 miles away to a gorgeous sit-down lunch destination
    • Open to anyone driving any Tesla (already signed up are some from NorCal & some from out of state)
    • More surprises yet to be announced

If you've never been on a car rally & you have a Tesla, you NEED to go once and you'll be hooked! I'm not saying this rally, I mean any Tesla rally!
Now, if you've been on a FREE Tesla rally (this one is $75) and you left in groups of a dozen or so cars with walkie-talkies for some but not all and you got lost and non-Tesla cars were getting in between you & red-lights & stop-signs meant stop & you've never been on a police motorcade escorted rally, then you MUST go on this one and you will be hooked! That's where much of the money is going! Membership has its privileges!

Sign up and pass it along at www.TeslaRun.com

This my first car rally and so happy to be apart of it. Looks to be first class all the way. Also I can't wait to see "Tesla the Hun" in person.

I'd love to come. But that would require a few more Superchargers to open up along I5. I won't quite make it from Woodburn, OR (opens next week) to the one in Folsom... that's 571 miles, so I think we need at least two more up and running before I could come :-(

For those in other regions let us know how you got the police involved?
Did you have to pay for it?

Thanx MikeL for the post. I look so lonely back there. After the initial getting lost debacle we were what, 3 cars in the back pack? Hee hee! I wished my dash-cam had not overwritten that keystone cops exit from the Teslive hotel! Let me know how I can get more pix of "The Hun!"? Thanx, IT

Count me, my wife, and 2 year old in! :) We will be coming from the Bay Area.

Are we supposed to receive an e-mail confirmation of our registration? I don't think I see one in my inbox or junk folder.

    HELICOPTER photo op

    54 Registered... 46 spots left!
The ink is still drying on the contract for our destination but I've been allowed to release this sneak peak...
Its a fraction of the roof top parking where we plan to line up the 100 Teslas for a HELICOPTER photo op!
    Guesses?

No, the wedding regalia will NOT be present in case someone was thinking of proposing on the run!

I'll be there representing (though most likely not the only one) the San Fernando Valley. Hope they can get 100 participants!

Goodness! A police escort, just like a funeral procession!

Last time I got a police escort that cleared the way in heavy traffic was in a bus taking a tour group from the airport to the hotel. At first, I thought that the bus driver was being a bit opportunistic, nipping in behind the cops who were heading the same direction. But then, they turned into a hotel entry and, when the bus stopped at the grand entrance, the cops stopped too. So it was an escort.

But we were not a special group rating an escort. Or so I thought.

Over the next several days, I came to realize that all tour buses rated motorcycle cops to clear the way. We even had a police boat escort us to see the mangroves. Why?

Well, this was in the Malay part of northern Borneo. There are a string of islands forming an archipellego between the Philippines and Borneo, and they have housed terrorist bands that specialize in kidnapping tourists. Evidently the Malay policy was to not let foreign tourists get stranded in a traffic jam.
