A weekend of interior/exterior mods (chrome delete, etc.)

Before I took delivery of my X I ordered a few items to personalize my P100D so this thread is meant to document and provide tips for people who would like to do the same. I'll try to provide links to the items where possible.

Easiest and first, key fob cover from RPM Tesla. I liked the fact that it had the red stitching and it was "leather." I keep my keys in my pocket all the time and the rubber fob covers tend to catch, and I also know I would end up rubbing the white decals off over time. Since this was embossed I don't have to worry about that.

Got these off Amazon and my PPF installer put these on as a courtesy when they were doing everything else.

I've heard they can come off over time but at $10 I love the look. I feel Tesla should offer this standard on the black wheels.

This may not be for everyone but I saw this on a FB group and I liked the look. My wife saw the decals that came from Amazon for the center caps and thought she could make the same thing on her Cricut. She basically got the logo online and cut it on adhesive vinyl, so this was home made. Since we have car seats installed for the other seats I only did the front seats.

I ordered chrome delete from RPM Tesla for the door handles, trunk sill, rear liftgate and front grille.

I attacked the door handles first because I thought they would be the easiest. They took me about 20-30 minutes total. Main mistake: I didn't place it high enough to wrap the top of the handle. I started with the driver's front door so I have to look at this mistake all the time. The cutouts at the ends (to allow overlap for a full wrap) were a little difficult to line up right to ensure no chrome shows through. I included a pic to show the chrome showing above the wrap on my handle. On my last one I positioned it on one side of the handle that caused excess on the other, so I just trimmed it with scissors. The picture tries to capture that but it's a bit saturated due to the darkness in the garage.

But, no more fingerprints!!

Trunk sill. I got this because I didn't want to scuff the chrome sill. This was altogether not too bad, but with all the raised areas it was a process not having any bubbles. I started with the center piece which is the easiest and with the flanks I started on the outside corner and worked inwards.

I already posted about debadging while they did the PPF install. Removing the chrome on the liftgate was the finishing piece. I was most worried about this one but I watched the video online and followed their instructions. I was super anal about covering the top edge and I ended up stretching it out so much that I had some excess to cut off at the ends. The fact that "Tesla" is raised on the chrome piece makes install a lot less variable.

Thanks! I'm leaning towards leaving it for now. I got the front "grille" chrome delete as well but I'm holding off because I like that detail. Having a black X it needs some contrast or it will end up looking like a big black egg.

My PPF installer ran a separate channel for the BlackVue. It's pretty stock looking from the driver's side.

What's wrong with a black egg?!? I originally left the front chrome as well, but ended up doing the front grill but left the emblem and the lower chrome. But I do highly recommend the side markers. It looks good with the Tesla emblem cut out, it's a nice bit of detail.

Oh I messed it up, this was the hardest piece out of all of them. I had to peel it and redo it several times. It’s still not perfect, but it’s hard to notice unless you’re staring it for a while.

Overall, this piece doesn’t make my list of must do. I like it more some days than others. But the chrome surround and the sidemarkers, love the way those look.

Inherently I agree with you, which is why I still have that piece untouched in the box. Scared to do it and I really like the chrome in the front. I'll get the indicator wraps from TeslaRPM. Is that where you got them from?

If you have it in a box, I'd say give it a shot. If you didn't buy it yet, I'd probably tell you to skip it. I don't think it adds or takes away significantly from the design unless you were to black out the entire thing. And yes, I got the sidemarkers from RPM. Just double check them before you apply it, one of my T's was crooked and needed to be fixed before I put it on.

In your second post I can see you installed the logo valve caps. I had those as well for about 7 months, and purchased them for a friend when he took delivery of his X100D. My friend was in for service last month and was told he should remove them because they can damage the valve - so he removed them. My initial reaction was that the comment from the service tech was BS. Until it wasn't.

I researched it more and found this:

I ended up removing mine it wasn't worth the risk. Do I think something might actually happen? Who knows. I didn't want to take a chance.

I figured you should know and you can make your own choice.
