Almost perfect delivery

With all of the negative comments here about quality upon delivery, about-to-be owners can be nervous about their upcoming experience. Well, I took delivery of my LR M3 today and I was almost entirely happy about it.

I checked the entire interior, the glass, the seals, the door operation, paint, panel gaps, under the car, screen functions, pulled the Aero covers, etc., etc. My delivery specialist was trying to get me to move along to the paperwork, but I continued my inspection. I’m happy to report that the car was flawless inside and out.. with the exception of a bulging seal on the driver’s B pillar. When I pointed this out the service guy said it was within specs. WTF? Lexus wouldn’t stand for that. Heck, GM wouldn’t stand for that. But they wouldn’t budge, despite my complaints. He said if it leaked they would replace it, otherwise it was fine.

I’ll have to find a glue to tack that piece of rubber seal down.

Otherwise, the car, the signing, and the new owner training was efficient and error free.

I verified my 386### VIN was built on 6.4.19. It has both Homelink and the 3.0 AP hardware, so I’m happy about that. There were 4 miles on the odometer.

I’m relieved that my car so far is in excellent shape. I’m getting a front wrap, ceramic, and tint, which means I won’t get to drive it until Wednesday. I’m really looking forward to then.

The scratch is just my thumbnail mark.

i wish my m3p i had to decline only had that issue. I'm going to reorder again once they are done with the rush in a few weeks.

So does this mean you don’t think the tax rebate difference will matter / Tesla will compensate by lowering price? Just curious.

I’m picking mine up tomorrow and I have to say all of these defects do make me a bit nervous. I’m pretty good at inspecting but what if I miss something...

Congrats. That wrinkled weather stripping is a common issue. Check the trunk, frunk, each door, usually you will find a wrinkle in it somewhere. You can't really fix it because the seal itself is rubber and it takes on that shape after a while. When it is installed it should be heated up with a heat gun and stretched smoothly and evenly into place. The only real fix is to replace the entire seal once it is wrinkled. That said, as long as you have no leaking then I would just live with it. You will not notice it after the honeymoon phase.

If you miss something then they will normally still help you out. I noticed an issue with my scuff plates being damaged from being loaded on and off the transporter. Took some pics and sent them to the delivery adviser and had mobile service come out and replace them. Great service.

You mainly want to focus on the big stuff. Paint damage, cracked glass, dents, torn seats, etc. Those are things that can happen once you drive off the lot.

The interesting thing about these deliveries is you don't get to drive the car before you sign. What if it goes thump, thump, clack as you pull away. ;)

I think fixing those little bumps is silly. I have one and I wouldn’t even think of asking to fix it. Might even go away once the car cycles a few hot and cold days. I would also NEVER glue that down, you’re asking for trouble if you do. If Tesla does fix it they use a heat gun. But I personally wouldn’t do that either. You probably wouldn’t have even found it if not for being pointed out on the forums.
