Ha, perfect! For winter, I have a glass top, for that exact reason.

But, you have done about what I'm planning to do for summer, except that instead of the clear plastic, I want to insert some screen / mesh (a'la the Taylor Mesh Top). How did you attach the plastic to the canvas? At this distance, it looks very clean.

I took it to a local marine upholstery shop and had them sew in the Isinglas...its thicker than plastic and doesnt crease or scratch as easily.
