Anyone else here get home delivery for their X?

I ordered my X on 8/14/19. My advisor told me that because I live so far from the closest dealer (222 miles), they would deliver it to my house for free! He has confirmed that twice so it should be legit.

He has assured me that just like any other delivery, Tesla would take care of any issues with the car that were there at delivery.

Sure I think it would be awesome to have the new car Tesla experience at the dealer but 222 miles is outside the range of my wife's Toyota Rav4 EV nor does she want to drive home alone after I get my new car. I am hoping this is good enough.

For those of you who have had a home delivery, how did it go?

Thanks!

...how did it go?...

Now that Tesla has a Service Center 50 miles from my home several weeks ago but before this, I just drove to the nearest one for delivery which was Fremont Factory 200 miles away.

Back to home delivery, I've heard from others that it's up to your luck. Some got good home deliveries some may not be very happy.

Because of your distance, most likely, yours will not be delivered by a Tesla staff. It's a generic delivery truck who drop off different cars to different addresses so you won't have an opportunity to ask for any questions.

Elon Musk promised an enclosed truck so your car might look really good with no dust but most likely, it's an open-air truck so your car might look beaten up depending on the weather.

But I guess home delivery is a good option for convenience!

200 miles is a huge distance. But I think picking up at the dealer will help you look for any defects(god forbid), if any, on the car.
As there are so many people facing issues and from what I have heard and read so far is that in case of major defects it becomes easier for one to return the car before delivery than after you have taken delivery.

Before Delivery: The booking cost to be refunded
After Delivery: Entire Car cost to be refunded

Refund time: 6-8 weeks. Minimum

I had a home delivery and it wasn’t the most fun experience.

I was told that my vehicle was coming on a particular day by the delivery specialist. It was going to be delivered to my detailer’s shop to get PPF installed. So I patiently waited all day and never got a call. Emailed Tesla at the end of the work day and he said he couldn’t get a hold of the delivery driver. He pinged my car and said it was 3 hours away from me. That was 5 pm. So 8 pm comes around, and I have no idea where my car is. I wait at home and even drove down to the detailers shop at 9 pm. Nothing.

So the next day, I get a call from the delivery driver as if nothing happened. He got in late so decided to go home instead. Never bothered to call. He meets me at the shop and of course, it’s in an open trailer and it got rained on. Car was delivered without damage but delivery guy was definitely not with Tesla and was just a contract worker who picked up a job. He kept complaining about how he’s not going to deliver for Tesla anymore because they don’t pay enough.

In the end, it saved me from driving 4 hours to pick it up and it cost me nothing more. Just don’t expect a ‘white glove’ experience.

My first Model S was delivered to my front door by a 3rd party delivery truck in early 2013. At that time, the nearest Service Center was over 1000 miles away, and no one from Tesla would be present at delivery. Plus, to increase anxiety, at that time, Tesla required me to pay for the vehicle before they would even put it on the delivery truck at the factory.

Since this was my first Tesla - and Model S was very new - clearly there was a lot of anxiety about the delivery and concern about having issues with the vehicles when it was delivered - without Tesla present. Tesla assured me everything would be OK - and if I found any issues, they would address them after delivery.

I developed a detailed inspection checklist for doing a thorough walkthrough of the vehicles features and fit/trim. Once the vehicle was delivered, I then methodically went through the checklist verifying everything was OK. As I recall, the only item that Tesla needed to fix was sending out someone to detail the vehicle - and clean it up after the transport. Even though the S had been covered and was in an enclosed transport, it still needed a thorough exterior cleaning.

The biggest challenge was tracking the delivery truck - since that was a 3rd party driver. Increased anxiety when the driver was delayed in west Texas after hitting a deer (which damaged the truck front but not the vehicles being transported). The actual delivery time was delayed (likely because of the accident).

But overall, the process went well - and quite different to have the vehicle delivered to my front door...

There really isn't a need to take delivery at a Service Center. As long as the vehicle has been fully checked before it gets on the delivery truck, and you've done your research on the vehicle so you're ready to use it when it arrives - there's really nothing you need from a Service Center for delivery. Our last delivery appointment was only a few minutes to sign a few documents - and then drive away.

You live near me and I was eligible for home delivery too. They’ll pay for a one way car rental plus a night in a hotel if you want to drive to Mt Kisco to pick it up (which is what I did).

I had to reject delivery of the first X I ordered because it was dented. If had selected home delivery, I would have been stuck with it because with home delivery, you complete the sales transaction first, THEN they contract with a third party carrier to deliver the car to you.

I highly recommend picking it up in person so you can inspect the car before delivery.

Wow that sucks! It was actually dented!?! Was it bad?

If the car arrives damaged I always have 7 days that I could return it to tesla. But then I would be without a car until another one gets to me.

Did you end up getting another one or cancel your order?

There was a small ding on the drivers FWD that appeared they had attempted paintless dent removal to fix, but hadn’t quite finished. They wanted to send it to the body shop and I didn’t want paint work on a brand new car. The passenger FWD also wouldn’t open fully due to a bad sensor.

The Mt Kisco staff was very understanding and very helpful with the process.

I reordered on the same day and my $2500 deposit on the first car was refunded within a few days.

There’s a Holiday Inn right down the road from the delivery center and plenty of nice restaurants around there. We made a nice weekend of it.

I just emailed my advisor to see if I could get the same deal.

I’m sure they will. It’s probably cheaper for them than shipping it to you. They have a deal with Enterprise, will direct bill and even cover the gas. You’ll have to get reimbursed for the hotel, but the check came within a week of emailing a copy of my receipt.

Hopefully I’ll see you at the Drive EV event in Ithaca in a few weeks.

Youre coming!? Awesome! I am the host for the event so I will definitely be there. I may or may not have my X but I am really hoping I do. Either way, Ill be there with my Rav4 EV and T-Rex range extending camper. :)

Yes, I had home delivery though I am only 5 mi from the nearest dealer location. Because of this they just drove the car over. This was done by a Tesla employee who said he didn't like the way the gasketing looked around one of the sonic sensors and that I should make an appointment to get that fixed. Other than that no problems in 5000 miles (touch wood). Signed a few papers and drove him back to Tysons.

Covered truck delivery x 2. Second one came with due bill and went back once the parts were in. (only some scratched chrome). They would rather “store” the car at your place while awaiting service than have you leave it with them but the back and forth is a hassle.

I got home delivery today. They sent me an Email Monday saying it would be here 11-12th. Original call was that delivery was for 9PM yesterday. I told them I wanted delivery in daylight so they changed to 9 AM today and then showed up at 12. Asked me to meet them at a local motel that has large truck parking about a mile from my house so I agreed. Truck was open carrier so car looked real good considering. A few bugs on windshield and a little pollen. Fiitting and opening and closing all doors was smooth. 7 miles on the odometer.

Only catch came when driver asked if I wanted him to follow me home. Apparently he was not authorized to take my trade in back. So we took both cars to my house, then I drove him back to his truck. Sent an email to my delivery guy and he said he would arrange to have it picked up.

Immediately made sure my 14-50 adapter would charge it and it worked fine. Was only charging at 13 MPH, I expected 20. But it is 95 out and the A/C was running, charge was at 83%, and I have overheat protection on. So hoping will charge faster after I have drive it some and the sun goes down.

Overall, not as smooth as I hoped but much smoother than I feared.
