Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

@gearchruncher that you down at Crows?
Yep, that was me, doing my best to prove that a Model 3 with some camber is a competitive AS or BS car, but for sure not an SS car ;)

Nothing about those courses benefited a Model 3. Zero digs. The start lines specifically blocked any use of a quick launch. Huge sweepers, fast slaloms, 150' diameter turnarounds. You know, standard national style courses stuff. It's kind of interesting how different the Model 3 experience can be between a club that has tight 30 second courses vs a big national course. There is really no PAX/class that makes sense for the car across all environments.

Because of that - a bit bummed I came to CA, with the highest density of Teslas in the USA by a massive margin and not a single other EV showed. Even Vegas got 4!

Double header weekend at Daytona. Saturday I managed top PAX (2nd RAW) and Sunday I ended up 5th in PAX (6th RAW). This event is held on the cart track in the speedway infield. Reverse direction between the days. Some amazing cars showed up. Super happy with the results. Fun weekend.

I don't even know what to call my driving yesterday but good, it was not. A day that was promised to be 48 and sunny ended up being 42, overcast and it lightly snowed a few times. I couldn't get heat in the 660's which isn't a great excuse since everyone else was dealing with the same and FTD was set on Hoosiers, I was actually getting wheel spin on launch which is pretty abnormal. I also made the mistake of setting my shocks to my normal kill settings which I'm sure didn't help.

Bummer for the disappointing day @SK360 ! I had a scare once racing on cold tires after the lunch break. I slid around 200 feet and out of the course entirely!

Does it feel like the rear end on these vehicles can whip around surprisingly quickly? So many times I expect to recover and I am at full-lock before I know it (and still spinning)!

It occurs to me that these cars’ moment of inertia is probably surprisingly small compared to 4,000lb ICE vehicle with a 500lb engine between the front wheels. That heavy engine in the front moves the center of mass forward, making the rear a little more controllable when it steps out. Even if the actual weight balance is pretty neutral, having a heavy engine up front still increases moment of inertia, reducing overall rotational acceleration when breaking loose.

I'm looking forward to the mid season starting next month when the new Nankang CRS show up, my mod maker completes his project so I can see if/how 315s work on the car. 😳

Almost forgot the how... shhh don't tell anyone. 🤫

So they keep dragging their feet on the reclassing, meanwhile a modified Tesla has a softer pax than a stock one. Makes sense.
They are not dragging their feet, there are people out there that are point blank against the Tesla. Scca listens to all members, then does, in theory, what is beneficial for the membership.

Pro Solo pax is still higher on EVX...

Huh, so we're talking SS of .834 or EVX with .838. What is allowed in EVX? Do you need to run 200TW street tires? I'm not sure if I should really care too much about mods that would move me out of SS since it is not a big penalty.

Everything about the SCCA involves dragging of feet ;)

Has anyone tried to fit 285/35/19 RE71RS yet? Looking at tirerack it looks like they're 26.9" tall and 11.4" wide. I currently have 265/35/19 RT660's which are 10.9" wide and need a 5mm spacer to give me comfortable space to the upright on my 19x10 +35's.
