Automatic daily charging to 90% ?

When my Model X is charged to 90%, I find that the rated range is 220 miles and a message stating that charging is complete. If I then don't drive the car for a couple days but leave the charger connected, I find the the rated range has dropped. Sometime I find the rated range is as low as 212 miles.
I notice that I cannot start charging to 90% using the Tesla phone app under these conditions. Why does that happen?
Is charging to 90% supposed to happen periodically when the car is connected to a high amperage Tesla wall connector?

It will eventually charge when the SOC gets lower. If you want to force it to charge, move the slider above 90% so it starts charging and then move it back. It is really not something to worry about.

Is (90% the right amount. I only picked up my car last week and that is what my delivery specialist said that 90% is optimal for battery life, but I had read 65% is optimal. Will charging to 90% every day hurt the life of my battery?

90% is good and won't hurt the battery.
If you leave it plugged in, it will turn on the charging when the range drops by 10 miles (about every 3-4 days)

Not to any practical extent. Don't believe everything you read, especially about batteries in general rather than Teslas with its battery management system. The point of the car is to use it, not to have a contest over whose battery has a mile or two more range after many years. You don't need to baby the battery. Set it at 90% routinely and 100% when going out of town.
