The disappointment with this announcement was likely due to the fact that Tesla seemed to imply that this would be a 3-row vehicle (standard) and if you wanted to have a 3rd row, you now had to pay extra. But considering that not everyone wanted a 3rd row, it makes sense to have it as a paid-for option.

Alternatively, you can view bypassing the third row as getting a discount off the standard price. All in the perspective .

In all fairness, and to agree with bonnie above, Tesla (and Elon) have been fairly consistent in saying Model X would cost "low single digit percentages" above a comparably equipped Model S. Thus comparison to three-row Model S pricing would seem reasonable for three-row Model X.

Not sure if this is available in the US, but here in Norway the Cybex Sirona car seat is incredibly popular. Not only does it rate very highly on crash tests, take little space compared to some of the larger BeSafe seats, and looks really nice, but they also swivel to either side to make it easier to put the child in / take it out.
