Rumor summary: Blind-spot cameras, Rain sensing, Level 3, Big battery, Interior/HUD

@daktari Interesting points and hearsay over on the Model S range and interior update imminent? thread. This again would certainly fit with your speculation above that a Model S/X facelift due to WLPT certification should happen by September 2019. Of course, the Electrek rumor of interior...

Model S range and interior update imminent?

Over on the Rumor summary: Blind-spot cameras, Rain sensing, Level 3, Big battery, Interior/HUD thread @daktari made the discovery that Tesla has probably not certified Model S and X for WLTP yet, which would possibly only be possible if they are "end of series". This would apparently give Tesla...

European Model 3 CCS plug: could it be sign that US Superchargers will offer CCS plugs?

Perhaps the only compelling reason to change the port entirely. And indeed this may be why Tesla did so in Europe, given that the European Mennekes derived port probably is not enough for Supercharger V3... But in the U.S. to add a secondary CCS port next to the proprieatary Tesla port...

Rumor summary: Blind-spot cameras, Rain sensing, Level 3, Big battery, Interior/HUD

Great points @daktari, thank you. There was the S130 rumor even... Definitely if much/most/everything happens that has been speculated e.g. in this thread (a summary of mine quoted below), it sounds like it could be called a "new series" for WLTP purposes.

Rumor summary: Blind-spot cameras, Rain sensing, Level 3, Big battery, Interior/HUD

Here are some pros and cons to my speculation above, that Tesla could consider or introduce a Model 3 like flap in Model S/X, as well as dual Tesla + CCS connectors underneath in the U.S. for S/X/3 (in Europe of course only CCS as we know, but U.S. is a bit different...): Cons: - Dual...

European Model 3 CCS plug: could it be sign that US Superchargers will offer CCS plugs?

Yes, the Chinese setup (corrected link to a pic of it) may well technically be the simpler one. That said, I am not convinced such technical considerations would stop Tesla from going the dual connector route in the U.S., if they otherwise felt it made sense... for example, to make best use of...

European Model 3 CCS plug: could it be sign that US Superchargers will offer CCS plugs?

I made a mock-up recently what a U.S. Model 3 would look like with both Tesla and U.S. CCS connectors. They should fit similar to China where Model 3 gets dual connectors underneath the same flap. Rumor summary: Blind-spot cameras, Rain sensing, Level 3, Big battery, Interior/HUD

Rumor summary: Blind-spot cameras, Rain sensing, Level 3, Big battery, Interior/HUD

@lunitiks Here is my mock-up of what a Tesla charge port with dual ports could look like in the U.S. On the left a proprietary Tesla port and on the right a U.S. CCS Combo 1 port. Of course in the case of Model S/X this would require similar expansion of the charge port area as illustrated here.

    What's on the horizon/Refresh?

@emmz0r @AMPd @J.J. Latest (but a bit aging) rumors suggest that Model S would still get a, perhaps somewhat smaller, instrument cluster. It can be seen in these images quoted below (click the quote to expand). Quote from the Rumor summary: Blind-spot cameras, Rain sensing, Level 3, Big...

Rumor summary: Blind-spot cameras, Rain sensing, Level 3, Big battery, Interior/HUD

So, Tesla did this in China (unlike Electrek says I don't think it is Chinese + Tesla connector but actually two Chinese connectors, but it is still illustrative): Any thoughts as to whether Tesla might do a CCS + Tesla connector combo in the U.S. to tap into all that Electrify America...

    What's on the horizon/Refresh?

My speculation is all explained in the post and thread. :) Every item is based on rumors, leaks and analysis, it doesn't come from thin air, though of course it can be wrong or representative of plans that since then have changed for example. It is certainly wholly speculative. But basically...

Rumor summary: Blind-spot cameras, Rain sensing, Level 3, Big battery, Interior/HUD

One more thought: I think Elon Musk's comments represent interesting time-capsules into Tesla's plans at various points in time. From the likes of the ones preceding "AP 1.5", to the spaceship controls widely believed to have been related to an augmented reality HUD intended for Model 3 (then...

Rumor summary: Blind-spot cameras, Rain sensing, Level 3, Big battery, Interior/HUD

I agree AP2/2.5 HW3 retrofits may face a delay after HW3 introduction at factory, unfortunately. I also agree Model 3 retrofits may be harder due to the cooling system. I wonder if that played at all into Tesla's decision to limit FSD sales this autumn with the Design Studio removal. After all...

Rumor summary: Blind-spot cameras, Rain sensing, Level 3, Big battery, Interior/HUD

Not quite. I take it that @MXWing is talking of the time before HW3 is retro-fitted into those 2018 Model 3's with the FSD option pre-purchased? New buyer that did not "loan" Tesla the money getting features before the older owner who pre-paid, just because they got HW3 hardware sooner from the...

Rumor summary: Blind-spot cameras, Rain sensing, Level 3, Big battery, Interior/HUD

Rumor summary: Blind-spot cameras, Rain sensing, Level 3, Big battery, Interior/HUD

Whilst I agree they are probably lessening their obligations with anti-selling the FSD option that way (hidden from the Design Studio), they still are producing cars where retrospective FSD upgrades can be purchased for afterwards, as they are AP 2.5 cars... (Unless they stop offering that, of...

Rumor summary: Blind-spot cameras, Rain sensing, Level 3, Big battery, Interior/HUD

I would expect this to remain the plan (and I would not be surprised if the passage of time had added more revamps): Rear lights getting a revamp would fit with a new CCS compatible charge port too... just saying...

    Model S / X to get CCS2 charging adapter - Confirmed

Rumor summary: Blind-spot cameras, Rain sensing, Level 3, Big battery, Interior/HUD

Tesla confirms Model 3 is getting a CCS plug in Europe, adapter coming for Model S and Model X Adapter for Model S/X for now, which is nice for existing owners (I will surely get one), but leaves Model S/X behind of Model 3 again for new buyers. Remains to be seen when a possible Model S/X...

Rumor summary: Blind-spot cameras, Rain sensing, Level 3, Big battery, Interior/HUD

Yes, they certainly could. CCS would have to be placed sideways, though, if they used the same cut-out as in China. That said, I have always been leaning on re-designed tail-lights - and re-designed tail-light charge port - personally. It wouldn't seem to require that much more space once they...

Rumor summary: Blind-spot cameras, Rain sensing, Level 3, Big battery, Interior/HUD

The latest Electrek news on a European charge connector Model 3 suggests that the placement of the charge connector would allow for European CCS. While the connector so far seems to be the same kind of European Type 2 as on Model S/X, the placement high up the charge port area suggests space has...

Elon Musk: EAP solved, on track for FSD completion in 2019 (No one else is close!)

It is true Tesla is the current leader on consumer-available autonomous driving systems, especially when one considers software updateable progress as a part of the equation - i.e. being part of the journey. This is unlikely to change anytime soon as Tesla's approach to consumer-availability is...

Any comment on what you disagree with @StefanSarzio - genuinely interested? Good info, thanks. Might play into why AP2 is not getting dashcam - in addition to processing power. If they think AP2.5 makes for a more palatable visual output... I still think processing power is the most likely...

I just received my Model X last week and the rear vents aren't blowing enough air.

Your performance sounds in line with past experience, so it seems normal. The 6 and 7 seaters add a rear HVAC unit to the right side of the trunk as well as C pillar vents. These are not in the 5 seater as has been stated in this thread. This rear unit runs second-row vents as well in the 6/7...

Autopilot trying to kill me in V9

The shadow driving is of course mostly a bunch of triggers, not real NN learning which is done "offline", not in customer cars. But triggers are there to send some data and even video clips back to mothership. Here are some of the triggers in AP2/2.5 cars: The separate NNs that run the AP2/2.5...

Any chance we'll get a bird's eye view for parking soon?

The seven AP2 cameras have always been black-white-red, which ends up looking like a 1950s movie as the red channel together with black and white does result in approximation of other colors as well. In a weird washed out kind of way. AP2.5 added black-white-red-blue (but apparently not green)...

Simplified interior configurations, what to expect?

Any chance we'll get a bird's eye view for parking soon?

I made this image back in 2017 by stitching AP2 images together, including approximating front and rear blindspots - rear from side repeaters backwards should be quite OK if black/white/red is sufficient (plus blue on AP2.5)... the nose is the problem. Of course a non-live system could be...

    Performance Upgrade Price Change!

To be fair, it is possible making a P3D during the ramp-up cost Tesla more than making one today - perhaps not "$5k" more, but there is at least certain logic that would defend charging more from early buyers during a product ramp-up. Often the manufacturer of course absorbs this (first price...

    Performance Upgrade Price Change!

@whitex @MXWing We've shared many good discussions over on the Model S/X sides, so it is interesting to see your different takes on this. One might even say uncharacteristic takes? :) Goes to show how complicated an issue like this is. I'm somewhat in-between. My opinion on the Model 3...

    v9.0 Dashcam - why only 2.5?

This is my speculation as well. I think AP 2.5 has more processing power that is needed in this case. Thus it does not seem completely impossible that "AP3" retrofits might enable this feature on AP2 cars as well, unless there is some camera or camera connection related issue in addition.

Rumor summary: Blind-spot cameras, Rain sensing, Level 3, Big battery, Interior/HUD

A comment on the AP3 speculation above in this thread and also towards the water cooling of potentially retrofitted AP3 hardware in Model S/X that has a fine discussion over on the Autonomous Vehicles sub-forum: Personally my guess is this: "AP3" for current Model S/X (AP2/2.5, MCU1/MCU2)...

A message to this forum about V9.

Great to see Tesla fix a big portion of this criticism with 2018.42. Tesla reads TMC too, that is a historically known fact. :) Still a work-in-progress for sure, but a worthy outcome of all the executive escalations and online commentary. Thank you all!

    Software Update 2018.42.x

Great to see any return of the split-screen. Kudos to Tesla for fixing this mistake. Not yet as capable as previous versions, but still a significant improvement over the first V9. My personal scenario is media on top and camera on bottom usually, so I guess I'll have to wait a while still for...

Rumor summary: Blind-spot cameras, Rain sensing, Level 3, Big battery, Interior/HUD

There are two or three bits of recent news that have gotten me wondering about the imminent future of FSD features on Teslas: V9 rumouredly maxing out on Drive on Nav, which is what EAP is - and this without e.g. traffic-sign recognition. EAP also now uses eight cameras, not just four. This...

A message to this forum about V9.

V8 was quirky in this, but only because Tesla broke it in V8 for no apparent reason. V7/V6 and past were very logical because everything opened to the top by default when tapping. Also, V8 started hiding the app tray, previously it showed always.

Firmware 9 in August will start rolling out full self-driving features!!!

There are many of us. I have been a happy Tesla car owner since 2014, and despite some issues I really do like my current car as well, but my relationship with the company and the way it has been run has steadily and increasingly gone the other direction. FSD features are not just an "August...

US Federal $7,500 Electric Vehicle Credit Expiry Date By Automaker

I appreciate your post @Knightshade. To be clear, I share your doubts about the extent to which FSD is possible on AP2/2.5. It is not hard to imagine many, many things that might limit the abilities of the current suite of both sensors and operating equipment like steering/braking redundancy...

A short update, for those following the Tesla rumor mill. It has been an interesting year from the Tesla rumor-watch perspective. It almost makes 2015-2017 seem predictable by comparison. Clearly some of the software side has appeared as rumoured/expected: we got the AP2 auto-wipers (as bad as...

US Federal $7,500 Electric Vehicle Credit Expiry Date By Automaker

I am not confusing, I am merely citing history and Tesla's messaging: "AP3" computer swap has been told to apply to Model S/X/3 cars with FSD option bought, if they need it. (EAP-only cars are said to not get this because EAP aka Drive on Nav does not need it.) Nobody has even mentioned...

US Federal $7,500 Electric Vehicle Credit Expiry Date By Automaker

Realistically, while I do expect Tesla to swap AP computers for those who paid for FSD, I do not expect Tesla to add any new sensors for a hypothetical AP2/2.5 => AP3+ upgrade. Just the computer is swapped. AP1 was definitely not upgradeable to AP2, and AP2 does not seem to be upgradeable to...

US Federal $7,500 Electric Vehicle Credit Expiry Date By Automaker

Well, that is a good question. In Q3/2016 Tesla pushed AP1 cars with massive incentives (including previously unheard of two-year leases), resulting in the best quarter volume of their history at the time - followed by a rather lackluster quarter when AP2 was ramping up. From the comms and...

    Rear view camera - v9.0

As I mentioned earlier as well, I have to say this sounds plausible. Unless Tesla changes this, it seems we the "legacy" owners are being dragged into the brave new world, even though our screen form-factor would support the old world better... There's precedent: pre-AP cars' instrument...

V9: cars invisible when directly to the side

I haven't received V9 yet (AP2), but this old photo manipulation of mine shows pretty well what portion of the sides is covered by which camera.
