Ive had the same random drop in displayed range after an update on my Mid Range car.

Car was originally sold with 260 range.
Sometime in January they increased the range to 264 with the 2018.50.6 update.
Car held the updated range through another update (2019.5.15)
Shortly after the car updated to 2019.8.3 it was showing 257-258 at 100% ~6 mile drop.

My mid range (built Nov, 2018) has exactly same range drop after software update. Not sure what's going on, but if there's really a problem with the battery so that it can't provide a range as long as advertised, shouldn't Tesla explain to us why we're seeing a sudden battery degradation after only six months of ownership. We paid $11K more than the standard range to get additional 44 miles of range, but a lot of mid range owners start seeing 10+ mile battery degradation within first six months. It's quite disappointing that Tesla only speaks out loud when they "figure out" a way to increase the range.
