Best Accessories for Model S?

The non-inductive iottie phone suction cup phone holder positioned on the tiny triangular glass on the door window is perfect.... it allows you to use the window since that part of the glass doesn't move, the holder telescopes towards you and it's super functional and doesn't look bad and keeps the phone at an ideal spot.

Congrats! Lots of fun features to enjoy with the car itself, but I too am constantly looking for accessories and upgrades.

If you have the yacht floor and don’t like the lack of storage, there are a couple drop in center consoles. Here’s the one I likes and bought.

Yes, I'm actually super upset about the yacht floor and overall lack of storage in the vehicle- was debating getting the OEM center console upgrade but cant justify the cost! Why are these all so expensive :(

I recommend the center console storage compartment organizer with wireless charging support. Basically it's like a tray that fits exactly in the storage compartment of your center console (where the removable cup holders are). In it, you can store stuff like your sunglasses, coins and of course your mobile phone. The cool part is that it also charges your phone wirelessly (Qi standard).

Just search for model s wireless charger on Amazon. There are several versions. The one I have is made by Topfit and it supports charging up to 10W. It also comes with a 12v plug because the USB ports on the Model S don't support enough juice for 10W.

Congrats! I have the same car. You will love it!
I have the original Tesla center console. It was half the price of the current version, but not as well-made. I am not sure I would have spent twice the price for the newer version. Other accessories I have gotten --
  • A little drawer to fit into the cubby below the center screen. Several vendors (such as EVAnnex) have them, in various designs. Basically the drawer lets you utilize the space without having things fly out when you accelerate (which will happen if you put stuff in the cubby itself).
  • Clothing hangers (coat hooks) for the back seat. There are various designs from several vendors. They clip onto the ridge around the opening for the sunroof -- if you have one. Works only if you have the sunroof. Not for heavy loads, mine are for 5 pounds max, each side. (There is also one that hangs off the back of front seats, but i think it is only for certain styles of seats, so double-check before you order.)
  • Nice floor mats for nice weather. I use the Tesla All-Weather mats made by Weather-Tech in the winter, but they don't look very nice, especially after one or two winters, and they don't feel soft or warm underfoot. So in nice weather I use mats from CocoMats.com. they have many styles, fabrics and colors, custom fit to any car. Look and feel much nicer than the all-weather mats. EVAnnex and other vendors have lots of other mats.
  • Tesla-branded clothing to wear. Tesla and some of the other vendors have hats, shirts, jackets, etc. I have a Tesla jacket (see my photo at the left), a sweater, and 2 or 3 Tesla hats. Frankly, I do not think Tesla's own clothing line is especially well designed or made and it is expensive, but so far my Tesla products have held up -- and they look good!
  • A trunk organizer for the space below the floor of the trunk. I keep my cleaning supplies and my snow/ice tools there because I have no garage. The organizers are not Tesla-specific. I got mine at The Container Store, but they are widely available at auto stores, places like Target, Amazon, etc.
Have fun customizing!

Hey!

Thanks for the reply; this is great!

Few questions:
  1. Where did you get the original center console from? I was looking around and could only find the new one on sale, and it was costing me around 700+60 in shipping.
  2. Which cubby drawer did you get? I can't seem to decide on one lol
  3. What sound system did you choose? Mine came with the standard and I'm a little nervous about it lol I have a SONOS set up at home, and the base BMW sound on my SUV, but not sure what to expect from the base sound of a Tesla- I'm only praying its not Base Honda quality and more along the lines of a Benz/BMW in terms of quality.
Thanks for the help!

1. I bought the console directly from Tesla, including installation at the service center. version I bought is no longer available from them, SFAIK.
2. I bought the cubby drawer from a place called EVAmped.
3. I got the standard sound system. I auditioned the two systems with music on a USB stick, and decided the difference was not worth the money. I have since had loaners two or three times that had the upgraded audio, and it is definitely a "cleaner" sound. But a lot depends on the source. It sounds better with music on my USB stick than some of the internet music. At lot depends on the recording, too. you can always get it upgraded by some after-market audio specialist.

By the way, I made one error. The trunk organizer i got came from PepBoys. What did come from the Container Store is a nice waste basket that i keep in the back seat on the floor right behind the center console. It is weighted so it does not slide around, and is easy to clean.

The coat hooks came from a place called EV Hooks.

I also got seat belt extenders. They are very handy for the back seat, especially, because the seat is rather snug, especially for three people or if you have child seats. Handy in the front seat if you have someone on the large size, or anyone who has trouble reaching the seat belt socket (my mother did). Mine came from Amazon, forget which specific vendor.

Just sharing my own experience. Like you, right after I ordered, back in 2015, I mailed my DS at Tesla that I definitely wanted both the front center console as well as the back console for the kids. The lack of storage needs to be compensated some how...
The center console was so high in demand that though it was 3 months in advance, the car was delivered and the center console was still in back order.

So I drove a couple of weeks without it and soon enough cancelled the center console.
I’m one of those that really loves the jacht floor.
I’m somehow a clean desk kinda dude, and in the end, the lack of storage actually translated in less unnecessary stuff hidden around.
The jacht floor is great when I do some errant and can just drop the bag there.
Not to mention my wife who really likes to be able to drop her purse and stuff just there.

But to each it’s own. Just saying you might end loving it too ;)

I've had the silicone insert listed above (better than nothing but not great), the Evannex console insert (hated it) and the Tesla OEM console. The Tesla one, while quite expensive, is very, very nice. Lots of storage, adjustable and convenient cup holders (front and back) and great phone holder. It seems stupidly expensive, but when I had mine installed the price included a Ranger coming to my house and spending 3.5 hours installing it in my driveway. It's a pretty major operation.

These suggestions are a bit plebeian but I find them useful:

•Tire pressure gauge
•12V air pump/light
•Tire plug kit and long nose pliers (to fix simple flat tires without having to fuss with a tow)
•Micro fiber cloths for cleaning the screen or to remove bugs when washing the car.
•Swiffer type duster to remove dust from the dash, instrument cluster, and so forth.
•Snow brush/ice scraper.
•If your car doesn't have a heated steering wheel: touch screen gloves.
•Bucket and squeegee for cleaning the windshield at Supercharging stations (bugs!)

Not likely of interest to most people, but I also carry a sleeping bag and water for emergencies, given where I live and drive, a broad brim hat, warm jacket, an old bedspread for padding the trunk when carrying messy cargo or leveling the back when sleeping in the car (I also have an air mattress and pump). I carry tire changing tools as well as a spare tire on long road trips. Those who never leave metro areas don't need such things, I would guess — I have to drive hundreds of miles just to get to a big city!
