Bought a lovely 2015 MS, but now panoramic stuck

Hi, i just bought a 2014 P85d and I have the same issue with the sunroof where it gets stuck open and makes an insanely loud clicking noise when trying to open. It looks like it opens on an angle and will never open fully. Takes a ton of clicks on the close button to actually get it to close again. OP how much did you end up spending? Are there local shops around the Wisconsin area that will fix this? It looks like they have to cut the whole thing out in order to replace it...
STOP DOING THAT.

That is how I cracked my hinges, because glass got stucked and they I just continue to press open, open, open...until the bitter end :(

Did not spend nothing yet as I will try to find an alternate solution, as tesla service quoted me 2500 euros.

will keep you posted.

But I would suggest you to drive to the tesla service and ask them to take a look, maybe all it takes is a bit of new lubricate and it will work just fine. And perhaps some recalibration.

The root cause of this sounds like more than the hinges breaking…more likely whatever stressors caused those breaks. To me that indicates an investigation into the mechanicals of the system from the hinges back toward the activation motor and all mounts. That is, it appears the troubleshooting should be focused on the tracks and any clogs, the motor’s situation (loose mount, broken connections to the window mechanism), and any parts that transmits movement from the motor to the hinges and hinge mounts. This includes the stops that tell the motor to cease operation both at the fully open and fully closed positions.

To be determined, but this does not sound like a software issue. And yes, Tesla’s estimated costs are both high but sadly expected given the likely full replacement of all parts, the labor required, and hopefully some level of testing when finished. Good luck with whatever you ultimately decide.

My understanding is that primary cause for failures with this sunroof design is due to a lack of lubrication. Friction causes failures (over time and then, abruptly).

What I was able to diagnose is the front hinges got stucked. The ones that are not connected to the cable, those are hard to move when with hand. The broken hinges move freely when disconnected from the glass. I guess the lack of lubrication or some physical damage.

Finally able to take this apart.

Everything was smooth (just time consuming) but somehow the "hole" in the cable got broken (either from removing the Link from it or some old damange), this part:

Broken looks like this:

It should be like this:

This part of the Link goes into this hole:

Its almost impossible to get the used part and new one is expensive, is there a way to somehow repair it? Maybe with epoxy?

Any experience, ideas?

So finally fixes this. Installation is rather smooth once you know what to do exactly via trian n error :/

Now the roof opens but not all the way. Venting is fine but eveything else not. It starts to open and after a few inches it slightly moves forward and stays there. After it can be closed just fine. No errors. Any ideas?

Took everything apart. Cleaned, applied lube. Per instructions, moved the glass to rearmost position and then close it.

It makes "cracking" noises when moving. Coming from the left motor. Seems like motor "jumps" a turn or how to explain it.

It does open and close thou.

I applied extra grease on the cable, is it "possible" the cable is now too slick and motors wheel is too used and therefor it "jumps"? But it was said in the manual to put the grease on the cable...

Are motors interchangable, so I swap left to right and see if it makes any difference?

Did you fix yours? What was wrong?

The pano roof is one of the reasons I bought this version. It uber cool in the hot summer as it vents the interior and even when its hot, there is no need for the AC. So yes, I will prefer to use it.

What do you mean by playing a risky game? right now I only have front Links attached, rear are off, and I can manually open/close it.
After working on it for a few days, I dont find anything complicated about it and I am very positive I can fix everything thats wrong with it. Its just one motor per side, a cable, links and some tracks... also easy to take apart once you know how and use right tools.

Do you know if the parts are restricted parts, or can you order them from the Tesla parts store online?

You can try this:

And pick your own country. Good luck

Yes, I can order the whole motor, but its an expensive fella. As its only the wheel/gear thats broken on the current motor I thought about replacing just that.

Obvious tesla does not sell only it so I thought maybe somebody else makes it and sells it - like for the door handles.
