Buying Tesla from ACT?

I live in Melbourne and planning to purchase a Model X 100D soon. I noticed with buying the car from ACT I can get the stamp duty exemption - may be due to it being electric vehicle? This price also reflects in their website design studio page. This will save me around $10k.

I understand that I have to register the car under VicRoads as I bring it to Melbourne. But is that it?

Surely if everyone knows about this will take up this option (of course considering driving distance it back their home). Are there any gotchas that I am not seeing in this?

I investigated that a few years ago; you have to have a residential address in ACT (supposed to anyway).

That would be if you were to do full registration of the vehicle isn't it?

I was looking at getting an unregistered vehicle permit in ACT so no paying of stamp duty, then use that to register with VicRoads - wouldn't that work?

I don't know. In Queensland (where I am), stamp duty is payable if it hasn't been "registered" previously.
Please let us know what you find out.

You wouldn't pay the stamp duty for the unreg permit but when you go to get full rego you would pay it then.
You may be able to rego it in the ACT if you have an address there and in a year transfer the rego to your
Melb address.
I'm sure the Govt's have these loophole covered though.

Hi guys I spoke to VicRoads and they advised that UVP is not classified as full registration therefore I will need to pay the stamp duty with VicRoads anyway when I register here locally.
