Can Kwik Fit Change my damaged tyre?

Got a screw in the rear passenger side wall so think this tyre will need to be changed.

Tesla quoted £248 for new tyre but can’t do it until 4th July !

Kwik fit have got a tyre and job will be about £20 less.

But feel a bit queasy about them jacking car etc.

Does experience show they are competent? And is it worth getting the acoustic tyre?

Thanks for any advice/ help.

Are jack pads/pucks really necessary? I’ve had several tyres changed at my local independent tyre place and they’ve never used anything. Just jacked the car up like they would any other. No damage done, and my first tyre change was over 3 years ago.

Same - over 200,000 miles in various family Teslas since 2015. I make sure they know what they are expected to do, but they've only ever used sledge-type flat-head jacks, no pucks. Same for Cleevey (mobile EV service specialists) AFAICR.

What tyre are you getting/replacing seems a little pricey for 1 tyre?

I had a slow puncture done over the weekend by them. Initially they were reluctant to do a repair, due to the acoustic foam, but since I'm on the second set of tyres and these ones are just regular ones, without the foam, and I did explain that to them, they agreed to do the repair.

Another aspect was, that when I called them to see if they are available, also asked them if they have the special jacking pads and they assured me, that they do.
Once I arrived, I did put the pads myself and asked them to jack it on them and they said that they are seeing these for the fist time ... hmm, so not too sure what they meant over the phone, that they have the right ones for M3s ...

Other than that - really professional service, clean and fairly quick. (That was at Bristol, Filton branch)

Good luck with your service!

My local independent garage has no issues with the foam. The just cut a patch out. did the repair then stuck it back down. Admittedly they charged me about £20 ( I think, it was a while ago now) which is a lot for a puncture but they plugged and patched it. You get what you pay for I guess.

Tyre changed no problems...

Big screw in side wall

in fact service was excellent. Supervisor moved car and looked after jacking.
They managed to preserve and keep the rim protector I had applied.
Job started on time and done quickly.

Don’t know what I was worried about really.

This was Kwik Fit Billericay Essex.
Got excellent service overall.

True and if you accidently jack up on the floor of an ICE car you could damage it which would be unfortunate but an ICE car does not have a Lithium Ion battery spread across the whole floor that if deformed or punctured could cause a thermal runaway event resulting in the entire car, and possibly the garage it is in going up in flames.
So there is that.
Well, on the other hands that’s even more of an incentive for the garage to do it properly ;)

Ok I'll reword.

Electric cars have been around far longer than Tesla.

The point is, it's 2023 and this is common knowledge with any reputable garage nowadays. There has to come a point where electric cars are not just for people who worry about these things.

These risks fuel those who love to say how electric cars are not a good idea.
