Had the same problem "Host unreachable". New phone, new download of Tesla app. I turned off the WiFi on the phone and it logged on using the 4G connection. Took it to the car and paired it OK. Likely a problem with the WiFi. Turned the WiFi back on and it connected OK. As an old programmer I would love to see the app code. It appears to use to many calls to the server. Always has been slow for me - two different phone providers.
 
Had the same problem when changing cellphone providers, "host unreachable". Turned off the phone's WiFi and it connected using 4G OK.
Took it to the car and paired before I hung up. When I turned back on the phones WiFi the app connected OK. The app has always given me
trouble, mainly too slow - 20 to 20 seconds to connect. Then even more time to display the car status.
