Car colors

It used to be that black was the base color, and all other colors cost extra (If I recall correctly, from what I've read, $1,500, but $2,500 for red). Now white is the base color, and all other colors, including black, cost extra, but $500 less than before.

Anyone know why the change in base color?

Why is the cost of other colors so expensive?

An does anyone know what the popularities of the various colors are?
 
The conspiracy theorist says they changed from black to white as white shows imperfections less. Black is one of the hardest colors to get perfect. Originally, Tesla stated the new base white would be a plain white, which would have been the best decision IMHO, but went with the pearl white to keep the production line simple.
