I used a Valentine V-1 for years and now swear by Tesla Waze... Tesla Traffic Incidents and Information

Where is the delete feature on the forum?

Nice setup. What's the smaller module?

And OMGosh...I take it you have (a) dog (s)?
You know what I find hilarious about that? Every time I've driven through Phoenix outside of rush hour, I've found myself terrified to drive anywhere near the speed limit, because the median speed seems to be at least 20 over. So they may not take speeding lightly, but they sure do seem to be doing a lousy job of actually enforcing the speed limits. :-/
The big enforcement used to happen in the old dais when the Feds would threaten to take away funds if the average speeds were too high.

I'm sure Arizona State Troopers although not technically allowing 80th or 85th percentile speeds, DO take that into consideration. Breaking the plane of traffic is another matter all together.

The State of Arizona also views interactions with the public at traffic stops equally whether a ticket is issued or a warning. Sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes, your luck runs out.

Yes, two shelties (fur balls that like to bark a lot). Seat cover is ugly but works good and takes like 30 seconds to remove and stuff in the trunk.

That is a Bluetooth module (dongle) to allow connecting the V1 to V1Driver app running on the phone. I have it setup a little nicer now so the Bluetooth dongle does not hang down like that. The app does not need to be in foreground to function. And connects with no user intervention. I get Voice alerts over the car audio system of what the V1 sees ahead or behind. So I never have to even look at a radar detector or even hear unnerving beeps and bleeps. Which is why I can get away with it not mounted on the windshield.

Here’s my phone setup. Which also wireless charges.

Yep - still available even after the acquisition. And still ranked higher than the Valentine One if I recall correctly. In one test against an Escort (now a cousin of the Bel Pro series), the V1 had 51 false alerts and the Escort had zero. Year after year after year, the same top 3-4 best seem to be Escort/Bel, Valentine, and Uniden. I just make a mental note to upgrade every 4 or so years to keep up with the whole cat and mouse thing.

Here's just one link that supports the above: Best new radar detector technology

Having the Bel Pro 500 on the windshield (within reach) makes it very easy to eradicate false alerts. Turns otherwise very noisy drives into very quiet ones. Plus with it mounted as high as, and as close as possible to the right of the rearview mirror (and hardwired above along with the dashcams), it's completely out of the field of vision. If I end up living somewhere where laser is used more frequently, I'd add laser shifters and probably at that point consider a more stealthy installation than windshield mount.

Anyway, nice install pic.

Beltronics LOL. I don't think they are still even in business.

I run a Valentine One with V1Driver App. And I didn't have to clutter up my Windshield with it ;)

I hardwired it to the rear amp. Very easy to conceal when in for service.

Valentine with an App will trample any RD with built in GPS locking.

I have 5000 lock outs and I can view them on a map. Look at trends, edit them etc. You are complete blind with any Escort system.

If you use a V1 out of the box without an app it’s pretty chatty and useless. But when setup correctly and paired with an app it’s sweet.

Times pulled over in 7 years with my Lexus IS: Zero
Times pulled over in 10 months with my Tesla: Four

1. Distracted Driving - Thought I was watching an iPad (No Ticket)
2. Estimated Speeding - Taking an on ramp and the cop said I was going much faster then the cars on the interstate. He did not clock me and after discovering I was sober he said to slow down (No Ticket)
3. No front plate - That is what he said. I pointed out I paid $100 for a sticker to not have a front plate and he said it was in the wrong spot (No Ticket)
4. Speeding - While in Autopilot the speed dropped from 45 to 25 in a speed trap. As you know it takes a little time before Autopilot reaches the new speed. (Ticket, 41 in a 25)

I got pulled over 10 minutes after taking delivery. I was trying out the acceleration for that first car experience.

Cop pulled me over. Thankfully he let me off with a warning. I have no idea how he decided to just let me off with a warning b/c an asshole cop would have wanted to give me a ticket and ruin my day. But he seemed like a younger guy, about my age, who didn't really mind if some guy wants to have a little fun within reason.

But I only accelerated and tried my best to not go above the speed limit, so just accelerate as fast to the legal speed limit. So probably b/c I wasn't barrelling down at 100+ mph was the only reason I got off with a warning, b/c he probably saw I only was trying to accelerate a bunch of times, not go over the speed limit.

Goodt I finally decided to install the iX yesterday. I had tried Escort Live several years ago and the app was terrible, figured I'd give it another shot. Seems like they have improved it a ton, it's easy to use and appears to connect reliably. Driving around a bit yesterday and saw at least one alert from a previous radar signal that someone else picked up, so that was cool. Of course it's all dependent on someone else with Escort Live picking up the signal or seeing the speed trap before you get there, there's always going to be that first person who has no warning. I can't compare it to Waze, never used that one. Probably having Waze running on the in-car browser with Escort Live running on the phone would be the best combo.
The people who really need to know have Waze running on an iPad with a cellular connection. Because when you're making it across the country in less than thirty hours, you need as much help as you can get. And no, no one has done anything close in a Tesla. Maybe when the 2500 mile range vehicles are available?

What state? Registration sticker sounds cool !

So "my friend" here in Arizona will officially be a notorious convicted criminal for a Class 3 Misdemeanor. Fortunately, handcuffs, booking, (additional) fingerprinting and jail weren't involved.

In, Arizona, or for helpful advice on ALL criminal matters, including EXCESSIVE SPEEDING aka "criminal speeding" and particularly in Yavapai County, Arizona, "my friend" cannot recommend Glen Hammond, in Prescott, highly enough. Glen may not see you for free, but he won't bilk you out of thousands of dollars for a resolution you can get without representation by an attorney. Glen can be reached at the office at 928.445.2889.

You can thank me later.

Thankfully probably for not going over the speed limit, the cop gave me a break, just a warning, and gave me no ticket. I think he just wanted to make sure I wasn't drunk.

I did get a speeding ticket in the BMW M3 I used to have before getting the Tesla. Seems cops won't give a break to a BMW, especially if they're a cop sitting on the side of an empty road looking to write speeding tickets.

I feel its easier to not speed in a Tesla once you get used to it. Since its so digital, you can put it in autopilot and put it at a speed you're willing to be seen doing by police. Or just keep your foot still, leave it in place, and the car just stays at that speed. Think you have much more control than a gas car when it comes to precision speed.

Criminal speeding is just a push of the pedal away...if your state has such a thing. Most don't.

Yavapai County, Arizona, particularly the Prescott side will make the spirited driver in you completely and utterly miserable.

In Arizona, unless you get a Milstead from the cop pulling you over, criminal speeding can be written up at:
35 in a school zone
20 over the posted speed limit
Over 85, as in 86+ anywhere, including 75MPH sections of any freeway including I-10 to Tucson or whatever.

Be careful out there and DRIVE SAFE.

No need for an iPad... just run the Tesla Waze app on your browser... Tesla Traffic Incidents and Information
