I used to be paranoid, too. When I searched my route I never found an essential Chademo, ie, there wasn’t a Tesla charger I could have used. Chademo in the US seems to be only on main highways which already have substantial SC charging anyway. Areas with very sparse SC never had any Chademo at all.
Also remember Chademo/CCS chargers in the US have a rather low reliability. The three or four times I tested my Chad in the US I never got a successful charge. Didn’t matter since I was testing and depending on the charge. I admit I got frustrated with Chad in the US and perhaps could have wasted more time calling customer service, downloading yet another app, etc., but I gave up, no patience.
Identify which Chad might be useful and download the app ahead of time. Get your credit card accepted, etc. Check how reliable is the charger in PlugShare. Don’t just wander around hoping to find a working charger. Some charger has poor connectivity so you can’t turn on the charger/download the app.
