Charging 2 EVs on a single 120V 15A circuit... and dealing with it.

No. Angela and I are in Vernon just down the road. I think we saw the news story about your house fire as they of course had to imply your Tesla had something to do with it. Anyway, our thoughts were with you as we knew that was a difficult time for you and your family. Glad to see you are bouncing back. Wishing you and yours well with the rebuild process.

J and A
Thank you J and A. Yeah, I was worried it would be a real (bad) media frenzy once the Tesla angle got out. But it never really went anywhere. I had one outlet call me asking if the car started the fire. I said "it doesn't appear so" and that was that.

I am so sorry to hear about your house. Can you share how it happened? (if electrical related perhaps there are some important learnings for members of the forums here?)

Thanks eprosenx. There's really no telling. The room where it started was absolutely decimated. The theory goes that this small room got extremely hot but snuffed itself out due to no oxygen and then it smoldered for probably days before anyone called the fire department. As strange as it sounds... it was hard to tell from the outside that there was a fire. That's amazing, really, when you consider the inside was a 100% loss. The thick soot deposited on everything completely ruined every single thing in the home. The only things recovered... get this... were made of paper (and here's the kicker... they were in the room that got so hot that steel shelving melted!). Go figure.

So trying to figure out exactly what happened in a scenario like that - you can imagine - is near impossible. They brought in a specialist and he just had guesses based on my recollections of what was there. That's where the drone battery theory came from, but really I think he was just looking for something plausible so when I mentioned the drone he was satisfied.

In your rental, is it possible you could find another receptacle on a different circuit so that you could at least charge both at once?

Best of luck with your rebuilding plans!
The point of this thread was to illustrate that it isn't necessary :) We're doing just fine on the 120V/15A. Of course I want better/faster, but we'll get by on this until our home is ready for us.
