Charging question

so, I tried to charge new 3 at home. Delivery specialist said I could use the cord from my x, which I leave plugged in. Well, even though plug fits in charge port doesn’t work. Tesla central said I was mis informed and had to use 3 cord to charge 3, but could use new 3 cord to charge my x too. So I switched cords, charged the 3 and plugged in x. Well, x would not charge.
So, am I forced to buy a cord that will charge both? X is a June build.

That's disturbing. I don't understand how it's possible, unless the 3 doesn't support J1772 signalling - but that seems really unlikely. Did you get the J1772 adapter with the car, like you did on the X?

I don't have any answers, but I'll be watching this thread carefully in hopes there's an answer that makes sense somehow.

Something is definitely wrong because the two cars have compatible charging systems. Either EVSE should be able to charge both cars. When you say it doesn’t work, exactly what happens? What message do you get on the screen? Also, are you using the EVSE that came with the cars or a third party one?

hmmmm.... well at least it sounds like something that can be software updated in the future. I have no clue why the X didn't charge at a lower amperage with the 3s EVSE except the software doesn't know what it is.

The 3 simply doesn't have software yet to know what the older charge cord is. It's already obvious the 3s software is still a work in progress.

Why is the question.

I’m not sure there others in the same boat, because as I said above, they are interchangeable. The low voltage message may be a clue. It’s possible that you do have low voltage that’s barely out of spec. Perhaps the X mobile adapter is more tolerant of this condition with the X and the 3 adapter with the 3. When you are charging what does your voltage read? The screen on each car should tell you.

I have charged our 3 with the UMC from our 2014 S. Worked like a champ!

The only thing that I noticed is that the Model 3 receptacle has a much tighter fit that the S. It takes a little more oomph to seat the plug.

We have not taken the Model 3 UMC out of the bag as yet.

Is the M3 UMC Gen 2? Did you check the led light on the unit? Is it green or flashing red? Mine flashed red when I first got it.. they have to exchange it because it was defective. If it flashes red, try unplug it and replug it. Then immediately plug the end into the port to see if it charges.

The new MX and MS comes with the same UMC (Gen 2) as the M3 btw. We are lucky and they came out and exchanged it with a Gen 1 one.

Well
I did what you said and really jammed it in
And the x cord started working. Maybe I should file it down.

I am currently using my X-cord on the 3 because it fit my needs where I have the 3 plugged in. I am also using the 3-cord with my X and have had no trouble charging either car.
