2015 Model S - Instrument Cluster Screen not waking up

I’m not quite sure what you mean by fluid in the instrument panel, but there is definitely a known issue with bubbles appearing in the instrument cluster screen. And if that goes on for too long a sticky fluid can drip out of the bottom of the screen. There is a lot more info in this thread...

2015 Model S - Instrument Cluster Screen not waking up

Well, I am the proud new owner of an MCU 2. It was a big cost, but so far I think I’m pretty happy with it. I’ve got a controller to connect to it and I’ve been playing some of the games. Also, one big unexpected benefit is that it solved one of my major annoyances with my car. With the MCU...

2015 Model S - Instrument Cluster Screen not waking up

It’s already happened a few more times, so I’ve decided to go ahead with the MCU2 upgrade. The service is scheduled for Monday morning and I was told to expect it to take most of the day.

2015 Model S - Instrument Cluster Screen not waking up

And… it’s still not fixed. I picked up the car last night and it seemed fine for a little less than 24 hours. But when I got into the car this afternoon the instrument cluster screen was black again:( So at this point it looks like my options are to deal with it or to do the MCU 2 upgrade.

2015 Model S - Instrument Cluster Screen not waking up

Just wanted to post a quick update. The problem happened again a few more times after the recall, so that definitely did not resolve the issue. I also started to get a warning that the 12V battery is failing the other day. I don’t think the failing 12V battery was related to this issue...

Does anyone know when the 2015 Drive Unit warranty expires?

I thought the same thing at first, but read it again: It says that the Tesla Model S drive unit warranty has been increased to match that of the battery pack. My Model S60 has an 8 year/125,000 mile warranty on the battery pack, so the drive unit warranty on my car was increased to match...

2015 Model S - Instrument Cluster Screen not waking up

I‘m not sure I have a solution yet, but I have a bit of a followup on this issue for me. I wound up making a service appointment for my car for this problem. On the service invoice it just says “Correction: Remote Diagnostics,” which is not really helpful at all. They also performed the eMMC...

Does anyone know when the 2015 Drive Unit warranty expires?

Thanks, I was able to find that. I couldn’t find a matching page on teslamotors.com, but the first archived copy of that page on tesla.com was from February of 2017 and that clearly has the “before 2015” wording.

Does anyone know when the 2015 Drive Unit warranty expires?

Yeah, I think that’s probably the case for the onlyusedtesla.com site. However if @David.85D has an official document from Tesla that says “before 2015” then I might have something to argue with.
  10. B

Does anyone know when the 2015 Drive Unit warranty expires?

What is the source of that? Is it an official Tesla document? The wording is almost identical to the onlyusedtesla.com page that I posted above. If it’s a third party source, then it probably doesn’t mean much, but if it’s an official Tesla document then it seems to say that my car should be...

Does anyone know when the 2015 Drive Unit warranty expires?

Thanks for the suggestion... I hadn’t considered that option at all. I was able to find this on the teslamotors.com archinve from 3/30/2015 at archive.org: Unfortunately it’s not at all what I was wanting to see, but at least it is pretty definitive. Re-reading the post from Elon it says...

Does anyone know when the 2015 Drive Unit warranty expires?

So I have a 2015 Model S 60 that was built in March of 2015. The car failed on Sunday and I had it towed to the service center. They just got back to me today and said that the drive unit has failed and gave me a quote of just over $7000 to replace it. They said that the drive unit...

    2015 Model S no drive

Yeah, I guess powertrain was the wrong word to use, but the battery and the drive unit are the high cost items. Unfortunately in talking to tesla this morning I discovered that the “Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty“ on my car was not unlimited miles, but rather 125,000 miles. It was...

    2015 Model S no drive

So I just had a really crazy experience with my 2015 Model S 60. My son and were taking a bit of a long drive this afternoon. He was driving and we were about 45 minutes into the trip when he said he was getting tired and he wanted to switch drivers. So we pulled off of the highway and into a...

2015 Model S - Instrument Cluster Screen not waking up

I’m glad to hear that you got things working, although I feel like energy saving on shouldn’t cause long delays like you were reporting. I’ve had energy saving on since I got the car and I never saw delays like that.

Mini split AC in uninsulated garage workshop

That‘s a good point. I hadn’t thought about that. It might be worth insulting the ceiling after all. I feel like that may be as much effort as reflective film.

Mini split AC in uninsulated garage workshop

Thanks David, that was super helpful and really exactly what I was looking for without really knowing what to ask. I just had no idea what to realistically expect when I try to run the unit part time and that really gives me a good answer. I will work on air sealing the garage. I think for...

Mini split AC in uninsulated garage workshop

Thanks for the reply. I had considered going the portable AC route, but in my research I discovered that they are actually pretty hugely inefficient. A mini split or a window unit has the condenser outside, so it uses outside air to cool the condenser coils. But with the portable units the...

Mini split AC in uninsulated garage workshop

I hadn’t considered that. The foam might get damaged a bit, given that it will be installed in the garage, but that might be an option if I decide to go the insulation route. And yeah, that’s what I was thinking. I wouldn’t be trying to run it full time. I would just need it for the time...

Mini split AC in uninsulated garage workshop

So I realize that this is really off topic here, but there are a lot of smart people here and I’m hoping to get some good advice. If you have any suggestions of better forums for this question I’d be happy to hear them as well. In any case, living in Florida, I have no basement, so I’ve...

2015 Model S - Instrument Cluster Screen not waking up

That‘s interesting, although I’m not sure you’re seeing the same thing I am. In my case the MCU comes on immediately when I enter the car, but the instrument cluster screen is off. Additionally, I don’t think the instrument cluster will come back on it’s own for me after 30 seconds, or even...

2015 Model S - Instrument Cluster Screen not waking up

So I’ve been experiencing a weird issue with my 2015 Model S. Lately, nearly every time I go somewhere and park the car for a bit, when I get back to the car and get in the instrument cluster screen is off and doesn’t wake up with the rest of the car. Sometimes when this happens I can put my...

    Replacing instrument cluster

Just a quick PSA to anyone who replaces their own screen... be sure to throw out the old screen. I replaced my screen a bit more than a year ago and at the time I wasn’t sure what to do with the old screen. I wanted to keep it for a little while, at least, to make sure the new screen was...

Tesla app version 4.0.0 has app re design for both car and energy

Another one along those same lines, if you are using the Tesla widget on your Home Screen or in the widget center (or whatever that is called) to see your car’s status, it now shows the car status whether you have the car selected in the Tesla app or the energy device selected. Before, leaving...

    (Un)Pairing Phones to Powerwalls

I just went through this with my iPhone 13 upgrade. What I did to fix it was to delete the tesla app, then reinstall it. This time after I logged in it recognized that my phone was not paired with my powerwalls and allowed me to go through the pairing process. Also, after I paired my phone I...

iOS 15 can no longer connect locally to energy gateway

For what it’s worth, I just tried and I had no problems connecting to my system using safari on my iPhone 12 with iOS 15. It came up with the normal warnings about the cert, but I was able to bypass them and connect.

How to verify that all my solar panels are working without contacting Tesla support?

No, this is specifically for solaredge inverters and the screenshots above are from the solaredge app. I don’t believe that the tesla inverter provides panel specific data at all. At least not to the consumer.
  29. B

How to verify that all my solar panels are working without contacting Tesla support?

The other thing to note is that even after you get access to the solaredge app, tesla is very clear that they won’t take service requests based on data from the solaredge app. You can see more details about this in the thread @jjrandorin posted above, so even if you do discover a failed panel...

    Please confirm my roof

I‘m no expert, so take this with a grain of salt, but looking at the parts I’ve circled below I’m pretty confident that this is a metal roof.
  31. B

Wow, the grilling needed to get SolarEdge monitoring access...

This is certainly quite possible without going through Tesla if it’s something that you want to do. I created an installer account on solaredge and then requested to be the installer for my own inverters. Solaredge sent me a document to sign attesting that I am the owner of the system and then...

Tesla solar panels during power outage

But it is because of lineman safety. While you’re right that it could easily be remedied at the house level the fact is that current solar only installs don’t have that protection built in and running them as they are currently configured during a power outage would endanger linemen. If...

    Home Automation & Powerwalls/Panels

That is definitely custom code and the best part of the plugin @gpez wrote. He calculates the rolling average of the home’s power draw over the last x minutes (which is configurable) and with that number and the amount of power remaining in the powerwalls, calculates the amount of runtime you...

    Home Automation & Powerwalls/Panels

Haha, I’ve had my share of fun integrations, but tbh, other than using your plugin for my powerwalls and another plugin for my solaredge inverters to get the data into my HA system I really haven’t done any integration. I’ve considered setting up some automated load shedding, but it gets...

Tesla app version 4.0.0 has app re design for both car and energy

I think you’re on the right track here, but I don’t think it normally shuts down at any point as it wants the switch to be seamless. Under normal conditions, when it’s ready to switch back to the grid it will sync it’s own frequency with the grid, then bring the grid back online. However...

    PV Troubles

Slide the switch to the left and then immediately release it. All three lights should come on for a second, while the switch is on the left, but then once you release the switch it should show one of the light patterns shown above, then go back to solid green.
  37. B

    PV Troubles

If you push the switch to P for a second and then look at the lights it will give you a bit more detail about how much power it is producing as shown below: So if you do that in the middle of a cloudless day then you should expect to see a blue or blue and green light turn on.
  38. B

    PV Troubles

If the inverter is producing power, then it does seem like things just aren’t displaying correctly. If you look at your power meter while it’s bright and sunny out does it show that you’re sending power back to the grid? That would certainly indicate that your PV is working as expected.
  39. B

Issue with Go Off Grid Function

I think that’s the big thing for me. Although other than simulating an outage the other use case I can see is during bad storms occasionally I’ll get some power fluctuations that will cause my lights to flicker, but sometimes it’s not enough to cause the system to switch off of the grid. Or it...
  40. B

    PV Troubles

Like @taphil said, if your PV isn’t generating, then the first thing to look at is the inverter. Unless you made changes in the TEG that you think might be affecting things there’s no way that changing the TEG configuration would affect solar production. What brand and model of inverter do...

How reliable is the energy data in the Tesla app?

The data should be accurate. It may have been a firmware update for your powerwalls that happened at 2AM.

Tesla canceled Solar Phone and Web consultation

It seems odd that they would just cancel with no explanation like that. But it’s also worth noting that I don’t believe tesla will install solar on a metal roof at all. They are pretty picky about what they install on and unless something has changed recently, a metal roof is a no.

90% of service cable and transformer rating cap

I did not need anything from Duke. It took forever for Tesla to request PTO, but once they did Duke came out and did the inspection and a week or two after that they came out again and replaced my meter and then I was good to go.

Powerwall only no solar, Tesla app fails to charge batteries during off peak

I believe that there’s actually a little more intelligence to it that’s just “Charge in off peak and discharge in peak”. I believe that the app tries to learn how much power your house uses and will only charge enough to be able to get you through the peak period without hitting your reserve...

My solar/powerwall install one year later

Ran out of power… could it be the 12V battery?

So I just had an interesting experience in my 2015 Model S. I was on my way to a supercharger and I knew I was cutting it a little close… it showed that I would reach the supercharger with 1% remaining. I have pulled up at superchargers with only a couple of percent remaining before, and even...

    Backup history details.

Yeah, that’s why I usually do too. Usually you can either see the powerwalls take over or the grid stop providing power or something at some point. But if you’re in self powered mode then your graphs might not change.
  49. B

    Low Solar Production

On systems with powerwalls the solar production is monitored with a CT over feed from the inverters. It’s possible (and actually reasonably common) for there to be a misconfiguration where only half of your solar production data is actually reported by the app. I suspect that this is the...

Things to consider when sizing your solar/powerwall system for off grid or extended outages

They could have, but is it really worth it? I feel like it’s a pretty fringe situation and I think that for the most part people would want their house to be powered, rather than having the powerwalls start charging while their house remains dark. Even if that means a loss of a tiny amount of...
