The dust floating around in the air has a high silicon content, (YMMV), landing on everything, building up. Microfiber towels are wonderful. But be sure to use them with some liquid or spray. The silicon dust is much harder than any of the plastic, leather or glass in the car and with a dry microfiber towel, just becomes sandpaper and will scratch. For instance, with proper cleaning, running water, dish soap, paper or microfiber towels, eyeglasses with plastic lenses will still be scratch free after decades. The worst thing you can do for them is clean them dry with the cute little cloth the ophthalmologist gave you when you bought them.
