Confused about delivery time

So i order my Model 3 on 1/13/20 and the current wait time was 7 - 11 weeks. I was expecting to get the car sometime in march.

Today (1/20/20) I got a txt message from tesla asking me to schedule my delivery date. It show the car arriving on 2/6/20.

On my tesla account i do not see a VIN number assigned or a deliver date. It still says
"Estimated Delivery: 7 - 11 weeks from order placed date"

So now im confused. What am i supposed to believe? Can i expect to get the car on 2/6/20 as they suggestedc well before the 7 - 11 weeks delay? OR will they just keep pushing back my delivery date until the 7-11 weeks go by??

I'm in much the same situation, with mine due to be delivered Feb. 1. I haven't paid the full amount due yet. I haven't seen a VIN number on my account, just a request to pay for the car. But I called my local Tesla sales office, and they looked up my VIN number and gave it to me, so I could get an insurance policy. I tried to use the link included in the text message from Tesla to set up a delivery appointment, but all the times listed were "unavailable." So I waited, and it assigned me a time. Then I called the Tesla office and asked them to change the time to one more convenient to me, and they were happy to help.

Estimate is not reality.

While a text for a 2/6 delivery sounds a little early, (normally only a few days before) I'd definitely make sure that you have everything filled out, money ready, and know where to call for insurance all ready for an even earlier delivery.

Sounds like your car is arriving early. I'd believe the text generally.

This. 'The text' generally means that a car has been assigned to your order and is on a truck on its way to your delivery location (or about to be on one). I've seen them slip a few days from that point, but if they are saying 2/6, and if you have your things in order so as not to hold that up, you're going to get the car on 2/6 or within a short period thereof. The 7-11 weeks estimate is no longer applicable to you.

So why do you all think i am getting the car sooner than expected? Im concerned it might be someone else's reject they are just selling to me....

Common concern, but IMO usually unwarranted. Tesla estimates are notoriously unreliable (in both directions). You can check the build date on the driver door sill if you're concerned it's an 'old' one, but I wouldn't worry.

Congrats on your early arriving Tesla! I'll be ordering one as soon as I hear that mine it totaled and not being repaired and the 7-11 week delivery estimate concerned me. I'll be very happy if I could be as lucky as you have been. Enjoy the car!!

Ok, one last thing... Since my car is arriving early my down payment will need to decrease by -3K. Im sure they will have to re-write the contract i signed. Will this be a problem?? Ive emailed them to ask but my sales guys is out of office right now.

This confirm that most of the cars are attributed while in transit instead of before or during production time.

I was just thinking about the logistic of dispatching about 3,000 cars into a fleet of trucks carrying about a dozen of car each.
After the boat have been loaded, they know the position of each car and know in which order the cars will exit the boat.
The cars will be then loaded in about the same order to the trucks which will have various destinations.

Note: I was thinking about delivery in UK, because of the two months delivery time.
I didn't know that there was currently so much delay in US, as I got mime in less than a week. but I'm in California.

Ordered mine on the 12th, just picked up the car yesterday. Never received a text or confirmation though, I just happened to look in my account and saw a VIN number and a delivery date set for 1/23. I emailed a S.A. on 1/21 (yesterday) that I had been in touch with after going in personally to ask a few questions at a show room and asked if I could schedule the delivery sooner. That same day I received a call from the delivery location and they told me I could come by later in the afternoon to take delivery.

The 7-11 weeks on the website is a generic timeline, attributed to the entire universe of Model 3 deliveries.

The email is specific to your individual vehicle. That takes presidence over the website.

It usually means that they have matched your configuration to an inventory or just manufactured vehicle.

Get in touch with your delivery specialist and let them know you need to adjust your down payment.

Congratulations. your new Tesla is on the way.
