Delivery Issue rant

Hey everyone. Long time lurker here. Just need to rant a little about my experience and would like to know if anyone had anything similar happen.

3/15 - I submitted my order for a LR AWD M3. After placing my order, I didn't get any confirmation and my account said I had a reservation and would be invited to configure. Obviously something was up, so on Saturday 3/16 I emailed my sales advisor that had taken my wife and I on a test drive. He couldn't find the reservation anywhere in the system, so after some back and forth I sent a picture of my credit card invoice to prove it had been charged. In the midst of all of this my sales advisor sent me a link to purchase a model 3 that matched my exact config. The kicker was that it was already in town and he assured me that once my financing came through that it'd be ready for pick up. It was a no brainer, so I put down another $2500 to secure the car.

Monday - 3/17 I finalize my financing and pay my down payment. On Tuesday 3/18 my bank confirms that payment has been made and sends proof to forward to my delivery specialist. I received a call later that day from my DS and she tells me that they don't see payment on their end. She tells me that she'll call me on Wed 3/18 to confirm delivery details which is set for Wed 3/27.

Wed 3/18 - My account shows that payment is complete, so I wait for the call from my DS to confirm. Later that afternoon a work trip comes up so I'll no longer be able to pick up my car on the delivery date. I need to grab it earlier if possible because I'll be out of town for a week. I figured it wouldn't be an issue since my car is already in town. I email my DS at the end of the day since I hadn't received a call from her.

Monday 3/25 I still haven't heard anything from anyone regarding delivery so I decide to call my local service center to see if they have any info. The great rep I spoke to told me that my car was actually in Phoenix, in transit to Texas and wouldn't be here by Wednesday. She was super confused as to why my delivery date had been set for 3/27. She was even more confused as to why my sales advisor had told me my car was in town. She was actually pretty pissed about the "misinformation" and that my DS hadn't reached out to me.

So, I'm left with a bit of a sour taste in my mouth right now. Lying to a customer isn't cool. Tesla still hasn't refunded my original $2500. I know they will, but it just rubs it in a little that this whole process has been anything but easy and transparent. I'm a big Tesla fan and know that once I get the car I'll love it. Just kind of bummed. Anyone have similar issues?

I've been told a lot of conflicting things regarding my order depending on who I talk to... like someone says my car is XYZ and then the next person says the car is ABC. March 27 is my new date, new car... I hope it goes smoothly. It's getting embarrassing telling my friends.... oh I wasn't able to get it again because of...

Yeah, seems like they have a lot of kinks that still need major work. Good luck with delivery!

I don't believe that Tesla reps are actively lying. My theory is they are just as clueless because of real-time changes taking place due to defects and rejections. What they see in their systems might be outdated as soon as they step away from their computers.

Sounds like our cars are on the same transit line and maybe even the same person we are talking to.

3/17 order
Paid in full cash on 3/22 and told would cross Texas lines from Phoenix once paid
Tentative delivery set for 3/29
Emailed advisor yesterday for a status, no reply
Replied today, expected in Texas 3/28....delivery moved to 3/30.....for now.

Fingers crossed but I assume they want to deliver before month end for sure.

Yeah, you're probably right. But, my sales advisor emailed saying, "It will be ready as soon as you do your financing…car is already here in Austin." That's the part that gets me. It's the same VIN that was in the link he sent me to purchase, so there wasn't any switch. I get things are crazy but come on. Just be honest. Also, as soon as I called this out to him and my delivery specialist, communication completely stopped. I still haven't heard a word from either of them. My local service center has been absolutely great. I'm not trying to talk *sugar* on Tesla because I know multiple people that have had great experiences.

I received the same timeline today. Here's hoping we both get them this weekend!

I was scheduled to pick up tomorrow (today - Wed) at 10AM. I called to confirm before closing and the delivery person said yes, if a last minute change were to happen someone would call you. Nobody called me but I got an email saying I need to accept new loan terms. It changed my delivery date to now Thursday at 10AM. The service center doesn't open until 10AM, so part of me wants to go tomorrow at 10AM, but I have a feeling the system is smarter than the people working at the service center. At least this has been my experience so far since placing my order on Feb 4. I've had the date change on me 5 times now. I'm almost giving up hope that I'll ever get a car or if when it finally happens, the paint will be all messed up lol. I'm trying to keep positive, but this is hard. I've probably watched every Model 3 video on youtube. If I wasn't in love with the car, I would have told Tesla to F*** off and buy a different car, but nothing comes close to it, so I'll just keep trying to stay positive.

lol I guess so... they called me this morning and said the car has an error message, so the service will need to diagnose the issue and would let me know if they are able to fix it. First car the door wouldn’t properly open or close. Now this one has a system issue. This is cray cray! I wish they would just tell customers a delivery date a few days after they receive it as it seems like every car has stuff that needs to be fixed. And if they actually get one that doesn’t have flaws they can be lile great news we got your car early!

I called my tesla service center back to see if they have an update on my car and they said it is now READY!!! I'm going to pick it up at 6PM. I've been patiently and then impatiently waiting since Feb 4th. I'm so excited, please pray for me that there is no major cosmetic flaws haha that would be devastating. I'm beyond excited right now, but trying to calm myself in case there is a major issue that makes me refuse delivery. Crossing fingers********

@jasondlr,

Again.....not to downplay your situation but come on.....I put $1,000 down 3 YEARS AGO......waited 2 1/2 YEARS before I could even PLACE an order and configure last June.....THEN waited over 4 MONTHS for the first proposed delivery date which was changed I believe TWICE before I actually took delivery.
And your complaining you don’t have your car 2 weeks after Ordering/Configuring?o_O

LOOOOOOOOVE the car though! TOTALLY worth MY wait and 3 YEAR tribulations!:D It WILL be totally worth whatever wait you have to endure! Trust me!

GO TESLA!!!

Glad you love your car. I’m lucky. I ordered a few weeks ago and got my model 3 a couple of days later. It had been at my service center since July of 2018. 60 miles on the ODO. I’m not sure I would have been as patient as you. Enjoy. The car is awesome.

There are plenty of stories that are much worse than yours, especially with the delivery ramp up in June - September of last year. As Mod3forMe suggests, your delivery situation isn't all that bad historically, not to downplay the significance.

I should say, what the OP is dealing with is unacceptable, but now that Tesla incompetent delivery process is well known, you have to kind of expect it.

Kind of like visiting in Florida in September - you should not expect a hurricane, but if you get one, you should not be surprised.
