Delivery issues

I ordered a Model 3 on March 1st after configuration and a test drive. During configuration it states delivery within 2 weeks. When discussing delivery with the sales agent he said that delivery should be between 2 to 4 weeks. Ok... . I ordered it expecting delivery within 2 weeks. I'll be out of the country in 5 weeks for a period of 3 weeks. I'm currently on Oahu in Hawaii, so when I asked a customer service agent what would happen if it arrived while I was gone, he stated I would need someone with power of attorney to pick it up because they don't have room!? Unacceptable. I ordered the car with an advertised expected date and I'm told they have no room for it to hold. If it arrives while I'm gone they're gonna have to hold it till I get back. Or keep it.

You could ask to have it delivered to one of their service centers, and pick it up when you get back.

I'm on the "two week" hold too...but I already knew that'd be optimistic at best. I don't know why they just don't say 2-4 weeks off the bat...why overpromise right?

I'm in a similar, but less severe situation. I ordered and was quoted (and still am being quoted by the website) "within two weeks".

I have a short road trip to the next state over planned in two weeks. If I take my current car on that trip I may go over the 1000 mile allowance on the trade in quote (not to mention I'd really like to take the car on the trip)

My delivery specialist is telling me 2-4 weeks is more reasonable but it's really infuriating that their site is still showing within two weeks

Yeah I'm not gonna cancel my order because they mislead the customer. If it gets here before I leave, awsome.. If it arrives the day after it will just wait at their facility for 3 weeks. Saying "They don't have room "is BS. They're gonna have room if they're gonna mislead the customer

My July 2018 delivery was three weeks early. I got a call Monday night asking if I wanted to pick my car up the next day.

Picked up today. Sheesh. I knew I was getting a 2018, but didn’t expect the build date to be July 2018. It had 60 miles on it. I went ahead and took delivery. The car is in perfect condition. Now more bad news. I expected the software to be updated to the current software. Nope. An update will come next month giving me the range and auto pilot that I paid for. LR RWD. The delivery was timely except I specifically asked for the car to be fully charged as I wasn’t expecting my NEMA 14 50 to be installed until Monday. Thankfully my electrician is here now. Nope only a few miles of range. I waited until a super charger stall was open at the dealership and charged until I had about 180 miles range. I’m pissed about the July born on date, but the car is identical to the ones coming off the today, so there is some solace there. Waiting for a month for the software update really sucks. My car says an update is available and will install tonight. It would be great if that was the new software. Not holding my breath.

Did you get a mid-range or long-range?

I got long range. Did a software update over WiFi and the latest revision came down. I have TACC dog mode sentry mode ( not using due to phantom drawdown of the battery). And hopefully the new extended range and 5 secs 0 to 60. So far so good.

Update. Car is on WiFi, did a software update and got the latest. Appears I have TACC, Dog and Sentry mode. Hopefully I’ll have the new LR mileage. I’ll know more tomorrow when I drive it.

From posts here on TMC the sentry mode drain was figured out to be something like 1 mile. Check out the threads on Sentry mode and give it a try. You might want to use TeslaCam for any possible accident recording when you are out driving. Here in the SF Bay area with car break ins so prevalent, most people probably will use Sentry Mode.

Congrats on joining the family and have fun driving.

Did they give you any compensation for taking a year old car? Your car is instantly worth $5k less than you paid for it. I'd raise a huge stink and make them give you FSD or something.

Ah therein lies the rub. Because they couldn’t give the date of manufacture (the car was at the dealership) when I showed up for delivery that was the first time I learned the July build date. I pressed mightily the day before delivery for some kind of dispensation assuming it was Dec 2018 but they were not giving an inch.
It was kinda like haggling on a new car at an ICE car dealership. “ hang on , I gotta talk to my manager”. I got no joy. I’m stuck like a lot of people are who bought cars before the price decrease, but I believe they got discounts on FSD. I was also stuck with my trade and worrying about putting too many miles on the trade in if I refused the July car and waited for a 2019. The price on my trade might have gone down somewhat.
The whole thing sounds kinda shady.

Did you get the colored IR rear glass?

July builds are probably the best - got all the major hardware revisions and most seem to have the IR pretty glass.

I'd take a July build if it had the rear glass with that cool IR coating.
Thanks. The glass is the regular color. Not having seen that color other than in pictures

Thanks so much. Good to know about Sentry mode. I’ll use it if I’m away from my house. Grateful to be part of the family.
