Delivery pick-up in Seattle

New to the forum here!

I ordered my X on 12/1, with the expectation that it will be delivered around February. But I got a call from my delivery specialist that it will be ready for pick-up on 12/20! I didn't prepare for such a quick turn-around, so I'm doing some research on a checklist during delivery inspection. Are things generally smooth now? My friend's X is having lots of door creaking issues, but I'm not sure if that's something I can catch during pick-up.

Is this checklist from 2016 still relevant?

Model X Delivery Checklist

Are there any X owners in Seattle willing to come inspect my X with me? :)

If you go to the end of the thread they update the checklist monthly - find the last one and use that - some issues have typically been resolved but others have popped up so it’s best to walk in with the full list.

It can be exhausting (when I picked up my S years ago it took me a LONG time to go over the whole thing and I only had one or two small issues).I pick up my X next week, and it tends to have a lot more so I will use it, but will rapidly check the minor things and spend more time focused on door seams, alignment of body panels, window seams, and most importantly the paint (though ironically I am having it wrapped in Matte that same day so there will NOT be time to correct the paint unless it is so bad and then I will delay the wrap). Also, make sure they are giving you the additional items you deserve, i.e. sunscreen, tow hook, cell phone adapter, floor mats, etc.

I suspect with the rush to get vehicles delivered at this time of year a lot more things will be amiss.

I am betting you lucked out on timing, I bet you are getting a vehicle that was previously ordered and dropped to buy an inventory vehicle instead and your order matched the in production one perfectly. I know a guy who ordered a full week before me, almost the exact same car as mine, yet mine is ready and his is not...same delivery location and everything.

Congrats and enjoy, and remember, being an early adapter means you have a little more tolerance for things that may not be done right, but rest assured, in my experience at least, Tesla usually works really hard to make everything right...eventually.

I thought that too. One delivery specialist thought that may be the case, but my primary point of contact said it now takes them 5-7 days to build an X. I have no reference point, as i planned to do all the research during the christmas holiday and the next 2 months. But 5-7 days seem awfully fast.

When I picked up mine, I used the list to remind me about big things (check on the tow hitch, which no one is getting right now)... for the small stuff, I just mentioned "i'm sure i'll find some small things later" and the deliver specialist agreed. There is really no difference in finding minor things (like a seam alignment) in the first month or the first 30 minutes...

Enjoy the pick up, have them order the missing parts (like the tow hitch), and then in a couple weeks do a detailed inspection! :)

Picked up my X today, didn't feel like going through the checklist there but let them know I will be going over the car more closely when I get home. They said no problem, just send us pics/info on what you find. I did a walk around for paint and trim issues and only found a few tiny bubbles in the clear on the hood that will easily buff out.

I'm not the type to be measuring gaps with a tape, if I can't see it with my naked eye obviously then I don't care. No door squeaks.

I do think I'm missing tow hitch, mats, and the phone dock assuming that is stock without PUP? Not worried about any of it, I'll get these items from Tesla asap and the only one I would like right away is the mats.

Unfortunately I did get the orange ring at the supercharger and was unable to charge. Luckily I had read up about this and was almost expecting it. Had enough to get home and Tesla is aware of the issue.

Model X is awesome.

The orange ring should just be from not pushing the charger in hard enough. This happens with almost all new Tesla's as the plastic around the charger port isn't broken in yet. You'd be surprised how much effort it requires at first to get it fully seated.

Check your spec sheet for the tow package will show up under "Options" on your Spec Sheet at MyTesla - if it is NOT there you do NOT receive it. The Tow package is NOW standard regardless of PUP so you probably should have received it. Make sure it is listed on your original order...it should be.

The Phone charger is an option unless you bought the P100 and then is it standard. It's only like $40 via the Tesla store or, like a lot of us, you can simply place a wireless charger in the area for like $30...

Congrats - and as Xtek said, the orange ring is NOT an issue - just work the charger into the slot a little harder and it will eventually loosen up. I am road tripping with my X this week after I receive it and plan on bringing a can of WD-40 and a towel to apply with just to make sure it goes in OK...do NOT touch the contacts!

Tow package was on my spec sheet but I'll double check, thanks for info on charger dock.

As for inserting the supercharger, I dont think there is any way I could have pushed it in harder, I would need a hammer to bang on it to get it in anymore if possible. We ended up changing from our original order to a new build inventory X and I don't have charging setup at home yet so it's been on a trickle charge all night. I'm getting a yellow light and a message saying "the charger may not be plugged in correctly". I'll play with that and see if I can get it in there better this morning, charged at 4mph last night.

Thanks for the help.

That message means it's not plugged in all the way.

I've used the WD-40 on the ring on my S for 3 years now - it's never been an issue. I just avoid spraying it on the contacts and instead spray it on a towel and wipe it onto the ring...it works fine. There are other options as well, but to lubricate the ring it was easiest, clear and does no harm to the plastic ring.

Perhaps Xtek has another option, but tons of guys on the forums use some sort of lubricant, very cautiously and judiciously applied, for this purpose. There are also tons of folks who clean their charging contacts annually (on both the HPWC and the vehicle).

Your challenge is that the charger from the Supercharger is simply not seating properly - if you can get your mobile connector in - it is NOT your vehicle's systems, just the outer ring being tight. Try a different Supercharger...you may find one more "broken in" that will fit.

Clean out the charger port all around using a Q-tip type cotton swab. The issue with using a lubricant is no matter how hard you try it'l make its way around and probably get on the contacts. Especially in hard rains.

I found my charge port has broken in enough now after 3 months that I only get the amber ring once 2 weeks when I don't use enough effort to push it in.

You just need to look at big issues, like dents, scratches, damaged leather etc....any other issues you can bring to Tesla's attention at a later date. Just dont email them every other day with small petty issues. Just make them a list. They will take care of you.

I tried 4 different supercharger stalls before giving up. Couldn't get plug to seat properly at home either so I could trickle on the 110 last night, still charged but did so with the error. This morning I went out and played with it, pushed the button while I pushed on the handle and it clicked right in and turned green! Stopped by a local Indian casino that has a hpwc and also clicked right in.

So, was my mistake not pushing button while pushing handle in at supercharger? I can't remember if I did or did not push button. Hoping to try again in a couple of days when I'm near the same supercharger again.

Pushing the button only opens the charge port and lowers a pin that stops people from unplugging the wand from your car. It shouldn't make a difference unless your lock pin is stuck up. It's on the bottom of the charge port if you want to check it.

First of all...good...I’m relieved for you.

2nd - I’ve never had to push the button to get the handle in...not sure but at least you have a system! Enjoy!

I'm in Seattle and if I have some time on that day I'm happy to stop by if you'd like. My MX was pretty much flawless so there were no issues, etc.

My biggest issue was that the tow package wasn't installed so they added it to the due bill and will install it later when parts arrive (they told me that the parts are backordered though).

As for charging, I've never really had any issues. Sure, I had a few times here and there where I had to re-seat it, etc. but nothing major like having to try it over and over again. But I got an inventory car with 950 miles on it so maybe it was already somewhat broken in.
