Update 06/21/2022

Tested out in Chargepoint CCS charging station. Could get 70kw with 71% battery. Not bad at all! I will test it again when I go to roadtrip with less charge to test out the max charging speed

Looking to DIY this myself to my newly bought US model S. I'm able to buy Toolbox 2. Can someone help out with info how to change gateway config? Car not rooted.
If you are in Europe, you could try to schedule a service appointment with Tesla service and see if they could do the retrofit for you.

The public subscription of Toolbox 2 and Toolbox 3 does not allow you to modify the gateway config. Only the Tesla mechanic version could

When you say "I'm able to buy toolbox2", if you mean FULL toolbox2, most likely you can change the car configuration that way. User access toolbox won't allow you to do that. You need toolbox2 anyway to reconfigure the PEKTRON module, so the lights behave the way they should.

Thanks for the info, but there is no learning in giving the car to Tesla or other mechanics.
I don't know which version of Toolbox the hackers are selling, I'll ask. But thinking of another route, what do you think of tapping directly into the CID eMMC. The eMMC holds the configuration in one of its partitions, right?

Thanks for the info for the PEKTRON module. I didn't know that.

It’s not that easy. The configuration is stored in the gateway, not in the eMMC. Also, Tesla might connect to your car and revert any changes you have made. There is more: depending on your fw, some entries of the configuration file might be locked, so you can’t change those without toolbox (3, I presume). Finally, if you have MCU2, all the contents of the eMMC is encrypted, although there should be a workaround.

If you are thinking of rooter’s way of getting root, that was great at the beginning, but Tesla closed all these holes looooong time ago. Now you need to be much more sophisticated to do anything.

Not sure if it helps but I thought I'd post here with a bit of info from my service tech visit and CCS2 retrofit kit. (Here in Australia)

The tech guy took about 45minutes to install. Probably would have done it 50% faster if I wasn't lurking around and asking so many questions.

He suggested that any practically minded person could fit it, and wasn't aware owners now have access to Toolbox 3.

After doing the wiring loom install and disconnecting the firemans loop he plugged into the diagnostics port and loaded up Toolbox 3.

There was just a single parameter he selected from a dropdown list to convert my car over to use the newly installed CCS2 adapter so I grabbed a photo of it. He showed me as he selected Gen3_EU_CP from the plc_adapter_type: menu item, and that was it.
The parameter didn't seem to stick immediately, I think he said sometimes it didn't, so he disconnected and reconnected the 12v battery and it all then locked in to the new CCS2 connector capability.
