Does car let you know if a light is out?

I saw an M3 today driving with one tail light completely out. Does the car let you know if you have a failure in one of the lights?

Yes, the display car will show the tail light out.

I think what it SHOULD do is actually alert you via some error message that your light is out. I mean it throws an error when you don't close the center console lid lightly enough but doesn't tell you the light is out?!

I had a tail light out about a week after I bought the car and didn't notice until my wife took it for the first time and she drove by me. Never thought to look at the car visualization and I never do.

I’m not seeing it in the manual but the head/tail-lights along with turn signals are all LED anyways right? So it’s not like AutoZone or Pepboys is going to carry a replacement. The car uses a can bus system so it’ll know if a light is out and then you can schedule mobile service or tweet Elon : )
