Door mirror query

Anyone had their door mirror apart on a M3? If so, can you identify this bit?

Found it lying in the mirror housing, below the glass. Everything seems to be working OK. How easy is it to access the gubbins behind the glass? I don't like bits falling off my car without my knowing where they fit, or what they do!

Ah, thank you. I can see the piece in question, it's on the top edge of the glass. When I get more time I'll delve!

The service manual is freely available at service.tesla.com. The 'official' process is a bit more careful than in the above video.

Finally got round to taking it apart - the plastic mount for the mystery piece is broken, so I can't re-attach it. But I can't see what this bit of metal is supposed to do anyway. Everything works as it should, so I've put it back and will henceforth forget about it!
