Illinois is capped at $1500 for a private party sales tax vs ~$5100 tax I would pay on a new one. Not sure what other states are.

In New Jersey, electric car sales are exempt from sales tax. I haven't researched it, but I assume this applies to private sales as well?

The seller of this particular Model S is located in NJ and so it's very possible the buyer will also be a NJ resident.
