I'm not sure there is much point in tracking as you have your answer already in that thread, they changed from using H.265 with HW 3 back to H.264 with a recent firmware update so you cannot use that as a way to know if you have HW3 or not.

You're right, but it at least makes me a little more comfortable knowing that others with HW3 that previously had videos encoded in H.265 are now see videos with H.264 on 2019.28.2 (linked thread has some more posts). I pretty much started with 2019.28.2 so had no way to know.

I think there is a way to tell by looking underneath the glove box, (or possibly the steering wheel on the rhd version?), you can see the part number and then see if that is a HW2.5 or 3.0, Tesla can also confirm if you ask them to.
