How to open center console lid

I'm talking about the storage area at the front of the center console. To open it manually I have to push forward with effort. Sure there is an easier way to open it?

It's in your owners manual on the infotainment screen.

Refreshed console or original console?
What year?

Try page 19 if you have latest M3.

Wow: rocket science. Always helpful. I think what I was looking for is : why isn't opening the front storage console a seamless interface. Along the lines of: push a button and your windows wind down. What would have been helpful was: there is resistance because you are compressing springs that will allow the lid to retreat seamlessly. instead of having to roll up windows.
