Is 80A wiring absolutely required for Gen2 charger?

Trying to understand what the requirements are for Gen2 80A wall connector. Is 80A wiring absolutely required? Can we do 50A or 60A? Tesla 3 OBC capacity is 48A anyway. Trying to understand this better.

If you want to run 48 amp charging, you will need 60 amp wiring.

No, you can wire the gen2 at whatever level you want. If your car can accept a max of 48A charging then just wire it with a 60A circuit. The gen2 has dip switches I believe to set the circuit amperage.

No, it is not required. A Gen 2 Wall Connector can be used on any 240 Volt circuit from 15 Amp up to 80 Amp. A Gen 3 Wall Connector can similarly be used on any 240 Volt circuit from 15 Amp to 60 Amp.

The Gen 2 has a physical set of dip switches or a dial inside to set it to match the circuit it is on. A Gen 3 uses a WiFi setup process via your phone or tablet to tell it what size circuit it is on.

EV charging is considered a continuous load, so you will only get 80% output to keep from overloading your circuit breaker.
