Our neighborhood (in Florida) requires that we have a tile roof. I'm not sure we would be allowed to put a blue roof. It would stick out like a sore thumb.
Also, I am hoping the cost of going solar goes down dramatically. I got a rough estimate this morning for 12-14kwh for about $30k after the federal tax incentive leaving us with an 11 year payoff (under ideal circumstances, and with no battery backup). If it was a 3-5 year payoff it would be a no-brainer.
It still seems that even though the cost of the panels have gone down the soft costs have not (inverter, installation). There aren't enough really big players to drop the costs on that stuff (at least not yet).
