I will be out of town for 4 months. Should I just plug my car in and leave? Is there a better way to keep it charged? Will this hurt the car to be plugged in for 4 months?

You should leave it plugged in. Set it to 60% or so, and leave. It will not hurt anything. Much more likely to damage something if left unplugged

Give the key card to the neighbor kid and have him drive it for the 4 months and keep it charged up for you

Yes. Assuming it is not zero degrees Fahrenheit. Assume an eight to ten mile loss per day sitting there. Should be less but overestimate.
