LR AWD Waiting Room

Ordered LR AWD white/white 19" wheels with FSD on 10/28.

I heard from a SA in the next day or two after ordering. We had some back and forth conversation about me being out of the country the last two weeks of December getting back on 12/31. She stated they would be delivering until midnight on 12/31 to get in all the deliveries before the year end (this worked for me but was obviously not ideal). She then went dark and didn't respond to my last three emails asking for updates. I reached out on the Tesla Chat this afternoon, got directed to somebody from the corporate office and lo and behold, he tells me my car will be at the delivery center tomorrow and I should be able to schedule delivery in the next few days. Woot! Found VIN is source (601XXX). The wait is almost over!

Ah mine was ordered on 10/21 and still no vin and I'm also in Seattle area...

That's a $1875 deal breaker. Ill probably cancel the car at that point. It's a stretch to get the car at what we are paying for it and to have to pay $1875 more, might not be able.

If the $1,875 FTC is the difference between you being able to afford the car or not, then you should not be buying it in the first place. Dream car or not.

Instead of stressing yourself (and your wife, and your SA) out, cancel the order, save up some more, and try again down the line.

Because if $1,800 dollars is that big of a deal to you the chances of you making it through all the payments are slim to none.

This...wholeheartedly agree.

Totally agree. This should not be a “just barely” making it purchase. If you can’t comfortably buy this car, don’t.

All of us who are in this end of year holding pattern are concerned to some degree with the FTC. Regardless of whether we are financing every nickel, paying cash, or somewhere in between, $1875 is not exactly pocket change. If it was to me, I'd probably be buying an MS or MX. At my advanced age, fully retired and managing investment income, I am never completely sure where I will be tax-wise once the brokerage reports come in. A tax credit in the mix is not a bad thing. That said, I won't be destroyed if I miss the deadline. Who knows what the New Year will bring in the way of Tesla pricing? I plan on owning one regardless. However, may I gently suggest that financial advice to other members of the forum is not appropriate when only they have ownership of these decisions. In the meantime, Happy Holidays to all.

To be fair to Tesla, I did get updates the whole way thru and even got a call from the delivery mgr to go over my details and delivery schedule which was ASAP. He moved me to the top and said probably by Dec. 4th. I was told Dec. 14th from the very beginning.

dhodgejr and starboarder.... Not sure how you are still sane. I am going nuts inside. I ordered 25 and 30 days, respectively, after you. I'm emailing my SA almost every other day. They told me I could get a stealth for $2k more, but the color and interior wouldnt be what I originally ordered. If they had that, I would be tempted. Wife was even onboard for the additional $2k...

34 days and counting for me. 27 days til end of year.
Similar here. Order e white/white and

Thank you for saying it. Based on comments above, these people must not have families and normal monthly budgets if $1875 is pocket change. I can comfortably afford a model 3,but if Tesla misses delivering in 2019 after I have already waited 10 weeks and live in the Bay Area, I will happily cancel my order. At the end of the day, this thing is just a cool car / toy. It's not going to change my life. My wife and kids have done that.

I personally have a normal monthly budget and a family of 4 and I am the sole source of income, and $1875 is absolutely not pocket change; that said the OP mentioned that it was already a financial stretch to buy the car and that another 1875 might not be possible which is where some of the reactions (at least mine) come from. I will also say that a tax credit is not necessarily a source of income...ones tax situation as mentioned above might vary and the end of the year may not look like a tax refund...so for me I didn't count on this or the colorado credit in the first place when looking at affordability. Again my reaction was purely based on my interpretation of the OPs post - which granted might have been wrong :)

You missed the point...

Obviously we all want the FTC. I’ll take $50 if they give it to me.

But the poster said he may cancel because he was ALREADY financially stretching to get the car, and the loss of the FTC may put it out of his range.

I’m definitely not the financial preacher type on forums. I ultimately don’t really care what people do, it’s their money.

However if I see someone about to walk across a barely frozen lake, I morally feel obligated to at least offer them the suggestion of walking around it for safety. It may take a little longer, but they’ll still get to their destination.

Same here, I already sold my old car. If they can't deliver by the end of the year after waiting 13 weeks, then I will feel pretty good about canceling.

Everybody has different breaking points. This wait has tested many of us and some none at all. I actually have lost some faith in the process but still will wait until the 31st. If no car by then, my gut feeling now is to cancel and move on. To each's own and I really do hope everyone get's their units!! Oh and it was never about the credit for me TBH. More about a principle that lives in me.

Are you all in Cali?

I think if they are a little late on orders they will offset the tax credit on your purchase into the next year. It’s better for them to lose a few dollars now and make it back in multiples over the years. I know it’s frustrating to wait, but the FTC shouldn’t be a point of stress.

However, if they do deliver your car to the SC before the end of the year but you can’t complete the transaction for whatever reason, that’s on you.

Just got the link to schedule and went ahead and got an appointment for Sunday afternoon. Do I still need to call ahead these days to make sure it's here? Who do I even call? Although I got the text link to schedule I've still not been contacted by an actual person ever in the whole course of this purchase. I still do have some questions and may be changing my mind about a trade-in if they do indeed match Carmax offers. Also not sure if they accept a personal check? Since I don't know the actual total I'm not sure what to bring.

Anyone have any suggestions?

North Carolina. Ordered 10/28. White with black, 18" aero, no FSD.

You should be contacted by a delivery specialist who will walk you through the final steps. For me it was an email and they responded quickly.

Sure, because when I ordered in Sept they said 2 weeks so surely its on me to clear out my calendar so I don't miss an unknown 2 day delivery window in Dec. :/

Keep drinking the Kool-aid my friend, but to me its the principle of it. To each their own.

SGM, if you've got questions, just reach out to your nearest service center. If they can't help you, they will CC the correct person. So far no one has initially reached out to me, I've had to do all the work in contacting them. But once I've contacted them, they've been very helpful in getting everything done. Don't rely on them, just reach out.
