M3 Performance wheels durability

I heard that some M3 Performance users have damaged wheels (rims written off and blown tire) when speeding over potholes. How delicate are they really? Would going slowly/at moderate speed over potholes be a problem? Is this really a concearn or is this a problem only in the case of reckless driving?

The issue is that there isn’t much of an air cushion between the roads and the rim. Engineering explained YouTube channel has an M3P and blew the tires on one side and bent the rims going over a pothole. He did an video explaining how not only are aftermarket 18” (to fit over the brake calliper) rims with tires cheaper than new 21” rims and tires, plus the bigger air cushion to prevent future blowouts. He also explained how much more efficient they are too.
