LFP battery in Model 3

LFP batteries generally have about 35% less energy than "regular" LiOn batteries. So how does the model 3 with LFP only suffer a 10 mile range penalty ? Did they put more batteries in the LFP cars?

I don’t think so. NCA batteries are better for LR and P variants than LFP.

Bjorn's review of the lfp SR+ was very positive also. However, I'm still hoping for a price decrease or some other incentive for those of us that order nca and get lfp. It makes sense for sr to have lfp.

The incentive is getting LFP now, vs. waiting until 2022 for a NCA SR+. LFP cars are starting to show up in inventory, as per Tesla email.

I'm scheduled to pickup the week of Sept 6th. Would you guys delay to get the new lfp batteries now that we know they're arriving in droves? No rush on getting the car since I still have my current Audi. Higher cycle count is good but cold weather degradation could be a bad experience with south western Ontario weather.

If you're already scheduled for pickup in a week or so I would just stay the course and keep your current car.

My understanding is that the Model 3 has plenty of space for bigger batteries like for the LR/P options, but the smaller SR+ battery does not use up all the space. So a larger (physically) LFP SR+ battery still fits in the space allocated for battery in the Model 3.

So a car with multiple battery size options could use LFP for the smaller (in kWh) options, but the higher-energy-density batteries for the larger (in kWh) versions.

Chinese manufactured cars are subject to a 25% tariff in the US, which is why there are precisely zero of them.

Not even a con really. You can charge LFP batteries to 100% consistently so real world range is actually 253. Since NCA batteries don't like being above 80-90% very often, the real world range is 237 miles max.
