I saw a silver one in Traverse City 2 weeks ago. Anyone on here? Do they do home delivery, or, because Michigan, do we have to go out of state to take delivery? I am interested to see the AWD details this week, however, I fear they missed the boat with me, the tax credit might not be enough incentive to overcome my loss of excitement. I was invited to configure, while in the apparent, Model 3 mecca of Palm Springs, early April, have been waiting for AWD, but, still am ambivalent, as I have been spending money on business capital improvements instead of an early build Tesla.

I placed an AWD order this morning. Any tips on wiring a charger at home? Is putting a charger in at your, self owned, place of work worth it? Do they deliver the car or do I have to go south to pick it up? So many questions... good thing I have 3-5 months to get them answered.

I just picked my TM3 in Cleveland 2 weeks ago, live in Troy, MI. I got RWD, of course. Not too worried about it after hearing all of the good things about other EVs and RWD cars in the snow. I've driven a Prius for the last 12 years in our winters and haven't had much of a problem.

Saw two Model 3’s in Grand Haven last weekend. Am up here visiting family, and was surprised to see them. One midnight Silver and one red.

Did spot the Muskegon supercharger. Looked at it longingly from my Lincoln Continental rental I am stuck in.

Charger at work vs home depends on tax implications. Could get on the Tesla destination charger program (if that is still a thing) to support fellow drivers...

I still don't think that we can take actual delivery of the car in the state of Michigan. I opted to go to Chicago to get my MS. I figure the drive home from there would be more enjoyable (plus I have family that way). You'll want to take charge of where you want to get your car, otherwise Tesla will start making decisions for you....but that won't happen till the car gets under production. But they do need to know where to ship it eventually...so make a decision and let them know. Also consider, if you choose Cleveland you've got one location there where you'll get the car, but if you choose Chicago there are several. I took the train out there and they picked me up at the train station. Worked out very well.

As for home charging, I'd say get a few quotes. Prices can vary wildly. I had my work put it in while I helped the electrician. Saved a bunch. I choose to go with the wall connector over the NEMA 14-50 outlet. But I have personally installed a NEMA 14-50 in a friend's garage. It's not difficult, but if you don't feel comfortable installing a 50+ amp double-pole breaker then hire a pro. Personally I went with the pro at home so as to not have to worry about any insurance issues if there were ever a problem. Pulled all the appropriate permits and had the job inspected. It's just a one-time cost so might as well get it done by the book.

There is actually a program that Tesla offers where they will put charging in at a business and pickup some of those costs for you. There's also an option to NOT have that charger listed on their website so it just becomes one for use by the employees of that business. Here's a link...

Tesla launches a new ‘Workplace Charging’ program to supply free charging stations to businesses

I tried the workplace charger program when it was first announced. They said no. I put in another request last night, but I presume it is because I am less than a 1/4 mile from a supercharger. I probably will put one in at home, by a pro. I wired my whole toy shed myself with welders and whatnot, but, IN my home, I probably will go with a pro. Guess I need to start calling for quotes.

Do you think having it delivered to my home is a bad way of getting the car? I don't particularly want to drive to either Chicago (5 hours) or Cleveland (4.5 hours). Even though I pay in full before they ship it, I still have the right to refuse delivery, no?

Regarding home delivery in Michigan. I am getting my M3 delivered the first week in September. The first delivery specialist who called me to schedule the pick up told me that delivery wasn't an option, but when insisted that I qualify under the rule of >160 miles from the nearest center, she passed me over to another specialist who set up the delivery.

How is payment being handled? Do you have to pay them before they ship it? Are you cash or finance? AWD?

Yes, I have to pay in full before delivery. I am financing though the University of Michigan Credit Union who gave me the best rate out of 3 I checked with. They have to mail the check to Tesla about a week prior to delivery. It's a RWD.

Thanks for the info. I am planning to finance also, hard to pass up the low rates. Let me know how it goes, I am expecting a VIN any day and really don't want to have to plan a 5 hour trip to pick it up, my schedule is full enough as it is. I believe you still have the right to refuse it.

You can take delivery in Michigan, but not via anyone from Tesla. Has to be done by a third party car carrier. My S was delivered to my home. Paperwork is asked to be done ahead of time. I know some people make a big deal about paying ahead etc..... I had no problems with it.

First time I have seen this thread. I have let many do test drives of the 3. If one has a reservation still and sitting on the fence I am still doing test drives for a couple more weeks.

Anyone in MI take delivery of an AWD yet? I know someone who is supposed to get one this weekend, but, I, as a first day reservation holder/order placer, still does not have a VIN for a blue AWD.
